ЁЯЗ│ЁЯЗ╡ Nepali Interpreter

Do you have a document issued in Nepal, or do you need a Georgian text in Nepali? We prepare written translations in both directions - from citizenship certificates and civil records to school mark sheets and employment contracts - with meticulous checking of Bikram Sambat dates, Devanagari numerals and the form of names.

Translating a Nepali document is rarely limited to the text alone. A citizenship certificate may be filled in by hand, dates are written in the Bikram Sambat calendar, numerals are often in Devanagari digits, and the name of one and the same person appears differently in the passport and in a local certificate. Whether a Georgian agency accepts the translation the first time it is submitted depends on the accuracy of exactly these details.

You need a Nepali interpreter when a document is drawn up in рдиреЗрдкрд╛рд▓реА or when a Georgian text has to be prepared in Nepali. TARGMANEBI prepares written translations of personal, civil, educational, employment and legal material and, where needed, in a form ready for notarization. We start the work not with the words but by establishing the origin of the document, the issuing authority and the purpose of use.

Three things in a Nepali document call for particular care: the B.S. calendar date, a number written in Devanagari digits and a form of the name that does not match the passport. All three are checked before the translation starts.

From Nepali into Georgian and from Georgian into Nepali

The service covers rendering the complete document: the header, the main text, tables, seals, stamps, the description of signatures and handwritten notes. If Nepali and English text appear together on one sheet, both parts are translated, because a Georgian agency examines the document as a whole and not a single fragment of it.

рдиреЗрдкрд╛рд▓реА тЖТ Georgian

A Georgian version of documents from Nepal's local authorities, schools, universities and employers for submission in Georgia.

Georgian тЖТ рдиреЗрдкрд╛рд▓реА

A Nepali version of Georgian certificates, contracts and applications for a family, a Nepali authority or a partner.

Notarial form

The translation is prepared so that the translator can sign it before a notary, if the receiving authority requires this.

The Nepali language: Nepal, India and Bhutan

Nepali is the official language of Nepal, but it is also spoken in India - especially in Sikkim and in the Darjeeling hill region of West Bengal - and in Bhutan. In India, Nepali is on the list of languages recognized by the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

For the translation this means that the language does not automatically determine the country. A Nepali-language certificate may have been issued by a ward office in Nepal, but it may also be a document of a Sikkim state agency. The name of the authority, the text of the seal and the subsequent certification route change depending on the country, so we clarify the origin at the very first stage.

Nepali is related to Hindi and both are written in Devanagari, but the vocabulary, grammar and administrative terminology differ. To someone who knows Hindi, a Nepali certificate seems partly understandable, which is often a source of errors: in Nepal's official forms many words have their own narrow meaning. For Indian documents, see the Hindi interpreter page.

Devanagari script and Nepali numerals

Nepali is written in Devanagari - the same script used by Hindi and Sanskrit. In official forms the numerals are often local digits: реж рез реи рей рек рел рем рен рео реп. For example, реирежреореи means 2082, and in a Nepali certificate such a number is most likely a Bikram Sambat year, not a Gregorian one.

On a low-resolution scan, digits and vowel signs are easily confused. That is why we check numbers twice: once in their Devanagari form and a second time by comparing them with another document of the same person. If a digit cannot be read, we ask for a better copy and do not write a guessed value in the translation.

Bikram Sambat (B.S.) and converting dates

Nepal's official calendar is Bikram Sambat (B.S.). Its year count is roughly 56-57 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar (A.D.): from January to mid-April the difference is 56 years, and after the new year - 1 Baisakh - it is 57. The length of the months changes from year to year, so an exact day-for-day conversion is impossible by simple subtraction and requires a reliable conversion table.

In the translation we do not change or delete the B.S. date. The date of the original is carried over exactly as it was written, with the month name transliterated and the B.S. mark. If the receiving agency also needs the Gregorian date, we give it in brackets and state in a translator's note that the date has been converted. If the document already shows an A.D. date, for example in a passport or an English-language certificate, both forms remain as they are in the original.

A common mistake is reading a B.S. year as a Gregorian one. A certificate dated 2080 is not from the future - it corresponds to roughly 2023-2024. Such a mix-up distorts the date of birth, the years of study and the validity period of the certificate all at once.

Citizenship certificate - рдирд╛рдЧрд░рд┐рдХрддрд╛ рдкреНрд░рдорд╛рдгрдкрддреНрд░

Nepal's citizenship certificate (nagarikta pramanpatra) is issued by the District Administration Office; under the law, this power lies with the Chief District Officer. For a Nepali citizen this certificate is the basic identity document inside the country: the passport, the national identity card and many other certificates are issued on its basis.

For the translation, the important items are the certificate number, the district and date of issue, the basis of citizenship (by descent, by birth, by marriage or by naturalization), the names of the parents and sometimes of the spouse, the permanent address and the signature of the issuing official. The reverse side of the sheet may carry a photo, fingerprints and additional entries, so a complete copy of both sides is essential.

Older certificates are often filled in by hand, and some are worn or laminated. On a laminated surface, light reflection covers the letters, so it is better to scan the document or photograph it at a slight angle, without glare.

The national identity card and the unique number

The national identity card (рд░рд╛рд╖реНрдЯреНрд░рд┐рдп рдкрд░рд┐рдЪрдпрдкрддреНрд░) is issued by the Department of National ID and Civil Registration (DoNIDCR), which is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs system. The card is based on biometric data and assigns the person a unique number. It is being issued in stages, so many Nepalis still have only a citizenship certificate - this is a normal situation, not a defect.

In the translation, the national number is carried over with the same grouping of digits as on the card. If you have an electronic version, send us the complete downloaded file and not a screenshot: a fragment of an interface is not a document.

Birth registration and other civil records

In Nepal, birth, death, marriage, divorce and change of residence (рдмрд╕рд╛рдЗрдБрд╕рд░рд╛рдЗ) are treated as vital events. They are registered by the local registrar, usually at the ward office of a municipality or rural municipality. The birth registration certificate (рдЬрдиреНрдо рджрд░реНрддрд╛ рдкреНрд░рдорд╛рдгрдкрддреНрд░) is the most frequently translated document of this system.

The certificate may show two different dates: the date of birth and the date of registration. If the birth was registered in adulthood, these dates may be decades apart. In the translation each appears separately, each with the B.S. mark, so that the receiving officer does not confuse them.

In recent years a child's registration has also been linked to the national identity number, so a new certificate may show a field that did not exist on older forms. We do not leave such a field unattended. The general rules for translating birth certificates are on the birth certificate translation page.

Marriage registration and marital status

In Nepal, a marriage concluded in the traditional way is usually registered at the ward office of the permanent residence of one of the spouses, while a court marriage is formalized at the district court. Accordingly, the marriage certificate (рд╡рд┐рд╡рд╛рд╣ рджрд░реНрддрд╛ рдкреНрд░рдорд╛рдгрдкрддреНрд░) may come either from a local registrar or from a court, and their forms do not match each other.

If the certificate will be used in Georgia for registering a marriage, for family reunification or for residence, find out in advance whether the marriage certificate alone is enough or whether an additional document is needed stating that the person is not in another marriage. The form of such a document and the issuing authority have to be clarified with the local authority in Nepal. For details, see marriage certificate translation.

Relationship verification certificate - рдирд╛рддрд╛ рдкреНрд░рдорд╛рдгрд┐рдд

The relationship verification certificate (nata pramanit) confirms the relationship between parents and children or other family members. In undisputed cases it is issued by the local authority - the ward office or the municipality - on the basis of an on-site inquiry and a recommendation, and photos of the family members are often attached to the certificate.

This document lists several people on one sheet, each with their own name, family relationship and sometimes citizenship certificate number. This is exactly where most inaccuracies arise: Nepali kinship terms do not always have a one-word equivalent in Georgian, so where necessary we render the relationship descriptively. The rows of the table and the captions of the photos keep the order of the original.

The Nepali passport and the Latin spelling of the name

Nepali passports are issued by the Department of Passports; since November 2021, new and renewed passports have been issued as electronic passports, whose chip stores biometric data. The data page is in English and is the main reference point for rendering the name in the Georgian translation.

Nepali first names and surnames are written from Devanagari into Latin script in different ways: one document may say Shrestha and another Shresta; Bahadur is sometimes a middle name and sometimes part of the first name. We do not "correct" these differences arbitrarily: we establish the Georgian form from the passport entry and, if another document differs, we let you know before the translation starts.

Nepal Police certificate on criminal record

The Nepal Police certificate (рдкреНрд░рд╣рд░реА рдЪрд╛рд░рд┐рддреНрд░рд┐рдХ рдкреНрд░рдорд╛рдгрдкрддреНрд░, in English often called a Police Clearance or Police Report) confirms whether or not a person has a criminal record. The application is submitted through the Nepal Police online system, and it is usually based on the citizenship certificate and, for use abroad, the passport.

When submitting it to a Georgian agency, keep the date of issue of the certificate in mind: many authorities accept such a certificate only within a certain period. This period is set by the rules of the receiving agency, so it is best to check it before requesting a new certificate. If the certificate carries a QR code, a registration number or a digital signature mark, these are described in the translation and the number stays unchanged.

Educational documents: SEE, +2 and university

School education in Nepal ends with the Grade 10 final examination - the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) - and the Grade 12 examination, which is commonly called "+2". The examinations are run by the National Examinations Board (NEB). In older documents the Grade 10 examination appears under the name SLC - this name was used until the 2016 education reform.

The mark sheet (grade sheet) shows the subjects, credit hours, letter grades and the GPA. We do not convert the grading system into Georgian scores: if recognition or equivalence is needed, this is decided in Georgia by the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, not by the translator. For details on translating foreign educational documents, see the diploma translation page.

For use abroad, an educational document is usually first certified by the issuing board or institution and then by the Department of Consular Services of Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In a university package - the transcript, the diploma and additional certificates - the name is often written differently, so we compare the whole package with the passport together.

Nepali citizens in Georgia: employment and residence

Nepal is an important source of labour migration, and its citizens also find employment in Georgia. These people and their employers often need the same set of documents translated.

Since 1 March 2026, amendments to the Law on Labour Migration have been in force, under which a foreigner needs a work permit for paid activity in Georgia and, in addition, an appropriate visa or residence permit. The application is submitted electronically. The list of required documents and the transitional deadlines must always be checked with the competent agency; our role is to translate the documents this process requires.

In such cases the documents often translated are the passport pages, the police certificate, the educational or professional qualification document and the work experience letter, and in the opposite direction - the Georgian employment contract into Nepali, so that the employee knows exactly what they are signing. For residence and family reunification you may also need marital status and relationship certificates.

Legalization: Nepal is not a party to the Apostille Convention

Nepal does not appear in the Hague Conference's official status table, which lists the parties to the 1961 Apostille Convention. Georgia has been a party to the Convention since 14 May 2007, but this does not make it possible to put an apostille on a Nepali document - an apostille is issued only by an authority of a country that is a party to the Convention.

In such a case the general route is consular legalization. First the document is certified by the issuing authority or another competent Nepali authority, then by the Department of Consular Services of Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kathmandu), and finally by the Georgian diplomatic mission responsible for Nepal. According to the information available, the Embassy of Georgia in India, in New Delhi, is accredited to Nepal.

Since August 2026, Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been operating an online system for consular attestation - the Nepal e-Attestation System (NEATS): through it, the application can be submitted, the status tracked and an appointment booked remotely, while the final verification is completed in person.

Georgian agencies may set different requirements: some ask for full legalization, while others accept a different form. Confirm the required form with the recipient of the document in advance, preferably in writing. For general information, see the apostille page.

Nepali-language documents from India and Bhutan

A document from a Sikkim or Darjeeling agency is an Indian document, even if it is written in Nepali. India has been a party to the Apostille Convention since 2005, so for such a document, unlike a Nepali one, the apostille route may be available. The specifics of India's registers and forms are described on the Hindi and Bengali interpreter pages.

Bhutan likewise does not appear in the Hague table, so the certification route for a Bhutanese document must also be clarified with the receiving agency. Bhutan's national language is Dzongkha; if a document is partly in Nepali and partly in Dzongkha or English, we process each language part separately.

Notarized translation in Georgia

In Georgia, a notarized translation means that the translator signs the translation in the presence of a notary, and the notary confirms the authenticity of the translator's signature. The notary confirms neither the authenticity of the Nepali original nor the content of the translation. Notarization cannot replace legalization.

The practical sequence is as follows: first the original goes through the required certification in Nepal, then the whole package is translated, including the legalization stamps and seals, and finally the translation is notarized. For details of the procedure, see the notarized translation page.

From Georgian into Nepali: when it is needed

Translation into Nepali is a rarer but important direction. A Georgian document - a marriage certificate, a residence-related certificate, a power of attorney or a court decision - may be needed in Nepali by a family, a local authority or a lawyer in Nepal. Some recipients also accept an English version, so we first establish which language is required; for the English direction, see English interpreter.

A Nepali version of the employment contract is useful for the employer too: the employee understands the terms, the working hours, the pay and the rules for terminating the contract. We render Georgian legal terms in Nepali so that the text reads naturally and the legal meaning does not change.

Quality control in Nepali translation

What is checkedWhy it mattersControl source
First name and surnameOne person must appear the same way in every documentThe Latin-script entry in the passport
B.S. dateMixing up the calendars changes ages and deadlinesThe original and a conversion table
Devanagari digitsAn error in one digit turns a number into a different recordReading twice, comparison with another document
Issuing authorityA ward office, a district office and a court have different powersHeader, seal, position of the signatory
Administrative unitProvince, district, municipality and ward are different levelsThe hierarchy in the original
Certification stampsCompleteness of the legalization chainEvery page and the reverse side

We are especially careful with addresses in older documents: after the administrative reform in Nepal, Village Development Committees (VDC) were replaced by municipalities and rural municipalities. We do not replace the unit given in an old certificate with the new one - it is translated as it was named when the document was issued.

How do I order a Nepali translation?

1

Send a complete copy

Every page and both sides, clearly, with the seals and edges.

2

Tell us the recipient

To which agency and for what purpose you will submit the translation.

3

We check the details

The country, the B.S. dates, the numbers, the form of the names and the need for certification.

4

You receive the translation

Electronically or in print, notarized where needed.

Turnaround time, the Tbilisi office and remote ordering

A translation of a standard-length document is usually ready the same or the next day, but this is not a guarantee: handwritten text, a multi-page package, a large number of B.S. dates or a visit to the notary affect the turnaround time. We will agree the exact time with you after we see the document.

The office is located in Tbilisi, at 118 David Aghmashenebeli Avenue. If you are in another city or in Nepal, you can send the document as a PDF or a clear photo. An image sent through a messenger is often compressed and the fine Devanagari marks get lost, so it is better to send the file in its original size.

Official sources

The links below will help you identify the type of document and the certification route, but they cannot replace checking the requirement of the receiving agency.

Send us the complete Nepali document. We will check its origin, dates and names, tell you what certification you may need and when the translation will be ready.

Frequently asked questions

Are Nepali and Hindi the same language?

No. Both are written in Devanagari and are related to each other, but their vocabulary, grammar and official terminology differ. A Nepali document is handled by a Nepali interpreter.

Will you replace the B.S. date with a Gregorian one in the translation?

No. The B.S. date of the original is carried over unchanged. If the recipient also needs the Gregorian date, we give it in brackets and note that it was converted by the translator.

Can a Nepali document be apostilled?

No. Nepal is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so consular legalization is generally used: the Nepali authorities, the Department of Consular Services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then the Georgian mission. The required form should be clarified with the recipient in advance.

Which side of the citizenship certificate should I send?

Both. The second side may carry a photo, fingerprints and additional entries that are part of the complete translation.

Is a Nepali translation notarized?

Yes, if the recipient requires it. The notary confirms the translator's signature, not the authenticity of the original or the content of the translation.

My name is written differently in different documents - what should I do?

When ordering, send us the passport data page as well. We establish the Georgian form from the passport and let you know about any differences before the translation starts.

Can I order from Nepal or another country?

Yes. Send the document as a PDF or a clear photo; you will receive the translation electronically, and we will agree separately on how to hand over the printed or notarized version.

How long does a Nepali translation take?

A standard-length document is usually ready the same or the next day. Handwritten text, a large package or notarization change the turnaround time, so we will agree the exact time with you after we see the document.
