Armenian Interpreter and Document Translation

Georgia and Armenia are neighbours, and documents cross the border between them every day: birth and marriage certificates, passports, powers of attorney, company extracts, car papers, medical reports, diplomas and court decisions. TARGMANEBI translates Armenian documents into Georgian and Georgian documents into Armenian, and keeps every name, validation code, QR code, electronic seal and e-Apostille detail exactly as it appears in the original.

Modern Armenian documents almost always carry a 16-digit number and a QR code used to verify them electronically. The receiving office checks the document against exactly those details, so they must appear unchanged in the translation. A separate question is how to bring a name across from the Armenian alphabet so that it matches the passport.

Despite the short distance, each country has its own administrative forms, identifiers, certification rules and terminology. A good translation therefore has to be correct not only as language but as a document - complete, consistent and in the form the receiving institution expects.

The Armenian alphabet and accurate names

Armenian has its own script. Bringing a name into Georgian should not rely on sound alone: a passport may carry a Latin spelling, while another document shows the name only in Armenian. We compare every available form so that one person does not appear under different names in different documents.

Particular attention goes to surname endings such as -yan, to the patronymic, to the place of birth and to historical or modern names of towns and communities. Where the passport gives a Latin spelling, that form usually guides the official translation. Where sources disagree, the difference is raised with you in advance rather than silently "corrected".

Civil status documents

The civil status registration system of the Armenian Ministry of Justice issues certificates and extracts for birth, marriage, divorce, death, change of name and related acts. These are used for family reunification, inheritance, marriage registration, citizenship and residence.

Birth and parentage

  • Birth certificate
  • Establishment of paternity
  • Adoption record
  • Duplicate or registry extract

Marriage and family

Other acts

  • Change of name or surname
  • Death certificate
  • Restoration of a registry entry
  • Copy or extract of an act

16-digit numbers, QR codes and electronic verification

Modern Armenian civil registry documents may carry a 16-digit number and a QR code generated by the unified electronic system. They exist so the document can be verified. The code, the QR code, the electronic signature and the seal are part of the document's official structure and are never left out of the translation.

Some certificates are issued in Armenian, Armenian-English or Armenian-Russian. A bilingual form does not always mean a Georgian translation is unnecessary: the receiving office decides, so it is worth asking in advance whether it will accept a bilingual document without translation.

Send the full downloaded PDF, not a screenshot. The seals, the 16-digit number, the QR code, the electronic certification, the apostille and every attachment must be visible for the translation to be complete.

Apostille, e-Apostille and the Georgia-Armenia agreement

Armenia is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. The competent authorities are the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, depending on the category of document. According to the official HCCH notice, the Armenian Ministry of Justice began issuing electronic apostilles on 26 April 2021, and they can be verified online. The translation reproduces the apostille text, number, date, issuing authority, electronic marks and the link between the apostille and the main document.

Is an apostille always needed between Georgia and Armenia? Not necessarily. The two countries signed an agreement on legal assistance in civil matters on 4 June 1996, which can matter for how documents are submitted in certain proceedings. That does not mean every birth certificate, diploma, bank document or company extract is automatically accepted without an apostille. We look at who issued the document, what it is, where it will be used and what the recipient has asked for in writing - and only then suggest a route.

Passports, ID cards and personal data

For passports and ID cards the task is complete agreement of data: name, surname, date of birth, citizenship, document number, dates of issue and expiry, issuing authority and additional entries. Where the document is bilingual, both versions are checked.

Social and other identification numbers are not translated or changed - they are copied exactly. Numbers and dates are never "reformatted" if that would alter what the source says. See passport translation.

Powers of attorney, consents and notarial documents

Between Georgia and Armenia we often translate powers of attorney for driving and disposing of a vehicle, for property, for banks, consents for a child to travel, inheritance declarations and signature certifications. Word choice here defines the scope of authority: "manage", "dispose of", "sell", "register", "cross the border" and "represent" are not interchangeable. The translation must grant exactly what the notarial text grants. See power of attorney translation.

Company documents, property and finance

Armenia's electronic state register of legal entities (e-register) holds data on companies, individual entrepreneurs, directors, registrations and changes. Business dealings may require an extract, a charter, a registration decision, a director's appointment or a beneficial owner declaration. Company names, legal forms, identification numbers, registration codes and addresses are reproduced exactly; a registered company name is not "translated".

For property and banking we translate title extracts, cadastral documents, valuation reports, mortgage and sale contracts, account statements, income certificates, loan documents and proof of funds. Amounts, currencies, account numbers, periods and tables are kept exactly as in the source. See registry extract translation.

Education, medical, legal and vehicle documents

Education. Armenian school certificates, diplomas, grade supplements and transcripts for enrolment, recognition and employment. Some state school-leaving documents in Armenia are issued electronically and verified by a 16-digit code, which must be visible in the translation. See diploma translation. Medical. Diagnoses, discharge summaries, test results, prescriptions, surgery reports and vaccination records, with doses, units and lab values checked separately. Illegible handwriting is clarified, never guessed. See medical translation. Legal. Court decisions, claims, enforcement documents, contracts and inheritance files, with parties, case numbers, deadlines and the operative part rendered exactly. See legal translation. Vehicles. Registration certificates, powers of attorney, driving licences, sale contracts, customs declarations and insurance. The VIN, plate number, make, model and year are copied character by character from the source.

Documents in Armenian and Russian

Older and some current Armenian documents combine Armenian text with Russian entries. We establish whether the two languages repeat each other or whether one adds information, and the translation reflects the real content of the whole document. Stamps, seals and handwritten notes in Russian are translated too - the omitted fragment of a bilingual document is often exactly the part that confirms its validity or a later change.

Price and turnaround for Armenian translation

Before quoting we look at the document type, number of pages, scan quality, handwriting, apostille and certification requirement. The price is by agreement and is fixed before the work starts. See translation prices.

A short, clear certificate is prepared relatively quickly; handwritten, multi-page, medical, legal or table-heavy material takes longer, and notarization adds its own time. For urgent orders, tell us the final deadline and the recipient's requirement at the outset.

Frequently asked questions about Armenian translation

What does a Georgian notary confirm on an Armenian translation?

Depending on the form of notarization, usually the authenticity of the translator's signature. That does not automatically mean the notary has confirmed the source document or all its facts, so check whether the recipient needs certification of the translation, of a copy, or both.

How should I send a civil registry PDF or an e-register extract?

Send the full downloaded PDF or clear scans of every page, not a screenshot. Seals, the 16-digit number, the QR code, the electronic certification, the apostille and attachments must be visible.

How are Armenian patronymics and -yan surnames written in Georgian?

We compare the Armenian original, the Latin form in the passport and the other documents in the order. No single substitution is applied to every name; the aim is consistent personal data across the whole package.

Is an apostille required between Georgia and Armenia?

It depends. There is a 1996 agreement on legal assistance in civil matters, but it does not automatically exempt every document. We check the document type, the issuing body, the procedure and the recipient's written requirement.

How are the 16-digit number, QR code and e-Apostille shown in the translation?

The number is copied unchanged, the QR code is described as an element of the document, and the e-Apostille text, date, number, issuing authority and verification data are reproduced in full.

Do you also translate Georgian documents into Armenian?

Yes - civil, personal, educational, medical, legal and business documents. The final form depends on where the document is submitted and whether the recipient needs the translation, a copy or a signature certified.

Can I order from outside Tbilisi?

Yes. The first assessment is entirely remote, which helps when the original is still in Armenia. For official certification an original or suitable copy may be needed; we tell you once we see the document.
