A Macedonian translator is needed when a document issued in North Macedonia must be submitted in Georgia, or a Georgian document must be prepared in Macedonian. General understanding is not enough: the civil status entry, personal number, register name, series, seal, signature, notes, apostille and the relationship between pages must all come across correctly.
We translate personal, civil, legal, business, medical, educational and consular documents, in Tbilisi or entirely online. A good scan or photo is enough for an assessment; the certification form and whether the original is needed are agreed in advance.
Directions of Macedonian translation
The work ranges from short certificates to multi-page contracts, judgments, company extracts and medical histories. In a civil document names and register entries decide everything; in a business document the legal form and powers; in medical material terminology and chronology.

Macedonian in official documents
Macedonian is a South Slavic language written in Cyrillic, with letters and sounds that do not map one-to-one into Georgian or Latin, such as Ѓ, Ќ, Љ, Њ, Џ, Ѕ and Ј. Names of people, cities, streets and companies therefore follow not only pronunciation but the official Latin form in the passport, ID card or register.
Macedonian must not be equated with Serbian or Bulgarian. There are similarities, but administrative terms, document wording and legal context differ, and a professional translation never swaps in forms typical of a neighbouring language. Under Amendment V to North Macedonia's Constitution, Macedonian and its Cyrillic alphabet are official throughout the country and in international relations, while another official language is used in cases set by law - so some documents also contain Albanian text, and every language part is identified separately.

UVMK: birth, marriage and death extracts
North Macedonia's Office for Management of Registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths (UVMK) issues the basic civil status documents. In Macedonian you will see извод од матична книга на родените (birth register extract), извод од матична книга на венчаните (marriage) and извод од матична книга на умрените (death); their Georgian titles follow the document heading and purpose. See birth certificate translation.
UVMK documents may be standard, bilingual or international. An international extract does not automatically mean a Georgian translation is unnecessary - the recipient decides. UVMK also runs an electronic portal for requesting extracts in local, bilingual and international forms, and electronic documents may carry verification elements, so send the full PDF downloaded from the agency rather than a cropped screenshot. Both sides, later entries, signatures, QR codes and electronic certification references are all translated.
Marriage with a foreigner and free marital status
Marrying a foreign citizen in North Macedonia, or entering a marriage concluded abroad in the register, may require a birth certificate, passport, family status certificate, divorce decision, former spouse's death certificate or other documents. UVMK services list marriage with a foreigner and registration of marriages concluded abroad as separate procedures. See marriage certificate translation.
The Уверение за слободна брачна состојба is translated as a certificate of free marital status or of no impediment to marriage, with the exact title chosen from the document's text. If the recipient wants specific wording, send it before ordering.
In marriage cases, translating a document and its legal validity are two different questions. The translation reflects the source exactly; the requirements for an apostille, validity period, original and extra certificates are set by the relevant registry or consulate.
MVR, identity documents and the EMBG
North Macedonia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVR / Министерство за внатрешни работи) deals with passports, ID cards, citizens' addresses, foreigner registration and other administrative services. In its documents the series, number, dates of issue and expiry, citizenship, address and authority name matter most.
The EMBG (ЕМБГ) is the citizen's unique master number. It is not translated as text and its digit grouping is never changed; if it is masked, partly visible or shown next to another number, the translation reflects exactly that. Latin names should match the current passport. For foreigners' stay or residence, electronic registration applications, police certificates, residence permits, work grounds or proof of accommodation are kept in order with linked numbers checked. See passport translation.
Central Registry company and business documents
The Central Registry manages the trade register and registration of other legal entities, issuing company extracts, registration certificates, director or manager data, change decisions, annual accounts, financial information, beneficial owner data and other certificates.
Legal form and representation powers are rendered precisely and consistently: manager, authorised representative, founder, partner and beneficial owner are different statuses. The company's original name, registration number, tax identifier, share capital and date of change are kept. We handle articles, partners' decisions, director appointments, powers of attorney and registered changes; annual accounts, balance sheets, invoices, bank statements and audit reports; and supply, service, lease, employment, partnership and confidentiality contracts. See registry extract translation.
Apostille, legalization and the court interpreter
North Macedonia is a party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. According to the HCCH register, the Ministry of Justice and the country's 27 first-instance courts are competent to issue apostilles. An apostille confirms the origin of a signature, capacity and seal on a public document; it does not confirm the content or replace a translation. Often the original is apostilled first and then translated together with the apostille, but the sequence depends on the issuing and receiving countries, the document type and the recipient. If the apostille is on the back or a separate sheet, send both. See apostille and legalization.
The Ministry of Justice keeps a register of court interpreters, and local administrative or court procedures may require a translation by a registered судски преведувач (court translator). This is not the same as a notarized translation made in Georgia, where the notary usually certifies the translator's signature. If you are filing with a Macedonian authority, check first whether it accepts a Georgian notarized translation, needs an apostille or requires additional certification by a local court interpreter.
Education, work, medical, legal and property documents
Education. Diplomas, school certificates, transcripts, academic certificates and syllabuses for admission, further study or recognition. The Ministry of Education and Science handles equivalence and recognition of foreign education, so the package rarely stops at the diploma. Full subject names, credit systems, hours, grading scale, degree, speciality, mode and dates are kept, with one terminology across every file. See diploma translation. Work and banking. Employment contracts, employer certificates, job descriptions, payslips and employment history for residence, visas, banks or loans; in bank statements the holder, IBAN, currency, period, transaction descriptions and balance are exact. Medical. Doctor's reports, diagnoses, discharge summaries, lab and radiology results, surgery notes, prescriptions, vaccination and insurance documents, with diagnosis codes, international drug names, doses, units and dates kept. Illegible handwriting is never guessed. See medical translation. Legal and property. Judgments, claims, defences, powers of attorney, statements, consents, notarial acts, inheritance and enforcement documents, property extracts, sale and lease contracts and cadastral information. Recipients may want the full judgment, the note of finality, date, case number and court seal, not just the operative part; powers of attorney keep their scope, term, substitution right and property details. How a Macedonian translation order runs

Call: 501 113 200Frequently asked questions about Macedonian translation
Can a Macedonian translation be notarized?
Yes, where needed it is prepared for notarization. Which form is accepted depends on the receiving body, so send its written instruction before ordering.
Can I send a Macedonian document online?
Yes. A clear photo or PDF is enough for an assessment, with every page, seal, signature, apostille, attachment and page edge visible. The original or a certified copy may be needed for official submission.
Do you translate from Georgian into Macedonian too?
Yes, in both directions, for personal, civil, legal, business, medical and educational documents.
What is a UVMK extract, and can it be translated?
UVMK is North Macedonia's office managing the registers of births, marriages and deaths. Its birth, marriage, death and free marital status extracts are translated with the full text, notes, seals and format.
Should the apostille be done before or after translation?
It depends on the issuing and receiving countries and the recipient's rules. Often the original is apostilled first and then translated with the apostille, but some cases need a different order.
How does a Georgian notarized translation differ from a Macedonian court interpreter?
In Georgia the notary usually certifies the translator's signature. Some procedures in North Macedonia require a court interpreter on their Ministry of Justice register. The two forms are not automatically equivalent.
How do you keep names and numbers accurate?
Names, surnames, EMBG, registration numbers, dates and addresses are checked against the passport or another reference document, with one consistent form and the Latin spelling added where useful.
