Bulgarian Interpreter and Document Translation

Preparing a Bulgarian document in Georgian, or a Georgian document in Bulgarian, needs more than language skills: official terminology, Cyrillic names, the apostille and the requirements of different offices all have to be taken into account. You need a Bulgarian translator when a document issued in Bulgaria is used in Georgia, when a Georgian document goes to a Bulgarian state or private body, or when a personal, study, medical, business or legal process runs between the two countries. TARGMANEBI works in Tbilisi and online.

Bulgarian and Georgian differ greatly in grammar, syntax and official style, even though Bulgarian uses Cyrillic and shares words with other Slavic languages. In an administrative document a small detail can matter: the form of the place of birth, the municipality, a personal number, a register entry, a job title, the scope of authority or the validity period. Machine translation, or text borrowed from another language "because it looks similar", is not reliable for official use.

A Bulgarian translation is prepared for its specific purpose - use in Georgia, submission to a Bulgarian office, notarization, migration, education, business, a court or civil registration. Where several documents form one case - a passport, a birth and a marriage certificate - names are rendered on one principle across every file.

Bulgarian and official documents

Bulgarian is a modern South Slavic language written in Cyrillic. Official documents contain specific wording, abbreviations and administrative units that are often mistranslated when carried across superficially: a city, a municipality, a region, a permanent address and a current address may all be distinguished, and the translation keeps those distinctions.

Names need particular care. Bulgarian names commonly include a patronymic form, a gendered surname ending and a Cyrillic entry, while international documents may carry a Latin transliteration. We check the form in the passport and how the same person should appear in Georgian documents - several variants of one name can later become an identification problem. An accurate translation means correct terminology, Cyrillic and Latin names compared, dates and numbers unchanged, seals and signatures described, structure kept and every page checked against the others.

GRAO and Bulgarian civil registration documents

Bulgarian civil registration and population documents often refer to GRAO - "Гражданска регистрация и административно обслужване" (civil registration and administrative services). Birth, marriage, death, permanent and current address, family status and other administrative certificates may be linked to this system. When translating them into Georgian, the record number, municipality, issuing body and every data field are rendered exactly, not just the main text.

For a Georgian document going to Bulgaria, ask the recipient in advance which form it needs: a full certificate, a register extract, an apostilled original, a notarized copy or a certificate valid for a set period. The translation form follows from that; a translation cannot replace a missing certificate or improper legalization.

EGN, LNCh and personal numbers

Bulgarian documents may show the EGN - the unified civil number - or other identifiers used for foreigners, including the LNCh. These numbers are never translated or altered; they are copied in exactly the same sequence. Each abbreviation is explained in context, and a number is never confused with a phone number, a document series or a register code.

Personal numbers are confidential. Use a secure channel and share only the pages needed for assessment and translation. In the finished text, numbers must match the source exactly - one wrong digit can hold up a bank, register, migration or notarial procedure.

Bulgarian migration documents

In cases handled by the Migration Directorate of Bulgaria's Ministry of Interior, translation may be needed to prove a residence permit, family reunification, work, study, long-term or permanent residence, address registration or foreigner status. The required package depends on the specific grounds and the person's nationality.

Migration translations must render passport data, border crossing dates, grounds for work or study, financial information, address and family relationships precisely. Differences in names, dates of birth and addresses across a package can trigger requests for explanations, so the passport page is often used to check the official Latin form of the name.

Company and register documents

Bulgaria's Registry Agency systems hold information from the commercial, non-profit, property and other registers. Business translation may cover company extracts, articles, a manager's authority, partners' decisions, capital information, representation, BULSTAT records, property register documents or special pledge materials.

A Bulgarian legal-form abbreviation does not always equal a Georgian legal form word for word, so the original abbreviation is kept where needed with a clear explanation. The company name, identification code, address, business purpose, representative and registration status are all checked. For regular business work - contracts, offers, presentations, specifications, invoices, shipping documents and correspondence - a glossary of names, brands, products and job titles keeps every document consistent.

Notarization, apostille and legalization

A notarized Bulgarian translation usually means the translation is prepared for official use and the translator's signature is notarized - but no single form is automatically accepted everywhere. Sometimes the translation is bound to a copy, sometimes to the original, and some institutions want a translator authorised or certified in their own country. A Georgian notary normally certifies the translator's signature, not the content of the foreign document; international use of the document may need a separate apostille or legalization.

An apostille confirms the origin of a public document and is not a translation. For a Georgian document going to Bulgaria, a common sequence is: obtain the proper Georgian document, apostille it if required, then translate the document and the apostille page into Bulgarian. In the other direction, a Bulgarian document used in Georgia may need an apostille from the competent Bulgarian authority and its Georgian translation. That authority depends on the document type - court and notarial acts may fall to one body, other public documents to another, and education documents may have a special procedure. See apostille and legalization.

Apostille, notarization and translation are three different actions. A given case may need one, two or all three - and the order is set in advance.

Study, legal and medical translation

Study. School certificates, diplomas, transcripts, supplements, student status letters, curricula and syllabuses for Bulgarian universities or for Bulgarian education documents used in Georgia. Grading scales, credits, qualification levels and academic titles do not always map directly between systems. Check whether the university wants specific pages, an electronic copy, a notarized translation, an apostilled original or an extra recognition procedure. Legal. In contracts, judgments, powers of attorney and notarial acts each term may define a right, obligation, deadline or procedural result. For a power of attorney, the scope - selling property, representing at a bank, managing a company, going to court, requesting documents - is clarified in advance. A translation cannot fix an incomplete source text, so in complex cases a lawyer or notary should review the draft first. See legal translation. Medical. Discharge summaries, test results, diagnoses, surgery reports, prescriptions, treatment plans and vaccination records for continued treatment, second opinions, insurance or recording a procedure done abroad. Abbreviations, doses, units, anatomical names and dates are exact; unclear handwriting is clarified. A translation conveys information and does not replace a doctor's diagnosis. See medical translation.

Cyrillic, Latin and Georgian forms of Bulgarian names

A Bulgarian passport or ID may show names in both Cyrillic and Latin. For a Georgian translation the passport's Latin form matters for international identification and the Cyrillic form for correct pronunciation and Georgian rendering. If earlier Georgian documents already use an established spelling, we compare it with the new translation. For Georgian names going into Bulgarian, the passport's Latin entry can stay the main identifier with the Bulgarian Cyrillic form as an addition - mixing arbitrary variants is best avoided.

How a Bulgarian translation order runs

1

Send the document

Every page, seal, signature, attachment and apostille, fully legible.

2

Clarify the purpose

Country, receiving organisation, language, certification form and deadline.

3

Translation and checking

Names, numbers, dates, terminology and page order are checked.

4

Delivery

Electronically or as a certified paper document, as agreed.

What we need for an accurate assessment

Send every page - including the back of a blank page if it carries a seal or signature - plus the country and body of use, the direction, the certification form, your deadline or appointment date and the preferred name form (passport or earlier official translation). The price is by agreement and set after we see the file. See translation prices.

A standard document is often done faster; a court file, medical history, company package or large contract needs more time. You can start remotely from Batumi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, elsewhere in Georgia or abroad - a good scan is often enough for an electronic translation, while notarization or binding may require the original or a certified copy later.

Frequently asked questions about Bulgarian translation

Can a Bulgarian translation be notarized?

Yes. For official bodies, banks, courts, universities or embassies it can be prepared for notarization. Check the form with the recipient - sometimes a professional translation is enough, sometimes notarization, binding and further legalization are needed.

Does a Georgian document for Bulgaria need an apostille?

It depends on the document, purpose and recipient. Often a Georgian public document is apostilled first and then translated into Bulgarian, so the apostille page is included too. Universities, the migration service, municipalities and courts may differ.

Can I send only a photo or scan?

In most cases yes, for assessment and to start work, with every page, seal, signature, apostille and note visible. For notarization or binding, the physical document may be needed later.

How are Bulgarian names written in Georgian?

They are checked against the Latin and Cyrillic entries in the document. The passport's official transliteration is a key reference, and every variant in one package must match.

Do you translate GRAO, migration and Bulgarian register documents?

Yes - civil status acts, population registration certificates, migration documents, residence permits, Commercial Register extracts, BULSTAT, property and company documents, each with the right terminology.

How long does a Bulgarian translation take?

It depends on the pages, complexity, handwriting, document quality and certification. The exact deadline is set after we see the document.

Can I receive the translation electronically?

Yes. A scan or electronic version can be sent online; a notarized physical copy can be collected or delivered as agreed. Clients abroad can start with scans and present the physical document later if certification requires it.
