Hungarian Interpreter and Document Translation

In Hungarian documents the surname is written before the given name, which in translation often makes one person look like two. Add the TAJ health insurance number and the special role of OFFI in Hungary's official translation system, and it becomes clear why the first question is where and in what form the document will be submitted. TARGMANEBI translates Hungarian into Georgian and Georgian into Hungarian for personal, migration, study, medical, legal, business and notarial documents.

Hungarian differs structurally from most European languages, and Hungarian administrative documents use local terms, abbreviations and identifiers that must be handled precisely for official use. We translate civil registry extracts - birth, marriage, death and divorce - criminal record certificates, address documents, powers of attorney, consents, diplomas, transcripts, bank material, employment certificates, company extracts, contracts, court files and medical reports.

For a document going to Hungary, the decisive questions are often who issued it, whether it has an apostille, whether the recipient requires a certified translation and whether an English version is acceptable. We assess every order by its real purpose rather than offering one form for all cases.

What Hungarian translation covers

We serve individuals, companies, lawyers, applicants to universities and clinics, and people in migration procedures. Sometimes a client needs only a working translation - a business letter, website text or offer. Other times the document goes to a state body, court, notary, bank or university, where formal accuracy, seals and notes, consistent transliteration and complete page order are essential.

Documents linked to Hungarian agencies

A Hungarian document's meaning is often defined by the institution that issued or will receive it, and its name must come across precisely while its function stays clear in Georgian. The National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (OIF) handles residence, migration and family reunification for third-country nationals - application attachments, invitations, family ties, income, insurance and accommodation evidence. Enter Hungary is the electronic system for submitting residence and other migration applications.

The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) covers tax registration, income, customs and tax certificates. The civil registry offices (anyakönyvi hivatal) and government windows (Kormányablak) handle civil status records and administrative services. OFFI provides state certified translation for public administrative proceedings. The Educational Authority (Oktatási Hivatal) and universities deal with education documents and recognition, and NEAK and medical institutions with health insurance and TAJ data. Requirements may vary with the case type, citizenship, document language and stage of proceedings.

Hungarian civil status documents

Hungarian civil documents use the term anyakönyvi kivonat - an official extract of the relevant record. A birth record shows the person's name, date and place of birth, parents' data and administrative details; a marriage extract shows the spouses' names, surnames before and after marriage, and the place and date of registration.

In Hungarian names the surname may come before the given name, and after marriage the surname form may change under local rules, with several name fields on one document. We change neither the order nor the form arbitrarily; we compare everything with the passport and supporting documents so the person is identified unambiguously in Georgian. Multilingual annexes, duplicate marks, QR codes, electronic signatures, handwritten notes, seals and back pages are all reflected.

Certified translation, OFFI and notarization

A notarized translation made in Georgia and a certified translation required in Hungary are not always the same legal form. The Georgian procedure may certify the translator's signature, while a Hungarian administrative case may require a certified translation recognised by the Hungarian system.

According to OFFI's official explanation, where a legal rule explicitly requires a certified translation, it is done in Hungary by OFFI, save for exceptions provided by law. That does not mean every private contract, bank letter or university application must go one way - a non-certified translation is a separate category, and the recipient confirms what it accepts. OFFI also issues electronically certified translations, prepared on a document bearing an electronic signature and issued electronically, so a PDF is not automatically a certified electronic document. We tell you in advance when final acceptance depends on a Hungarian recipient's special requirement.

Apostille and legalization

An apostille confirms an official signature, seal or issuing body for international use; it does not verify the content and cannot replace a translation. Hungary has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention since 18 January 1973, but the competent authority differs by document type - the HCCH record for Hungary lists them separately. First establish who issued the document: a court, notary, administrative body, university or another institution.

An apostille and a certified translation are not interchangeable - one confirms the public document's origin, the other the linguistic correspondence of the text in a set form. Check whether an apostille is really needed and whether it comes before or after translation; include the full apostille text and number in the translation; never omit a back page, seal or electronic annex; keep names and numbers uniform. See apostille and legalization.

Hungarian migration and Enter Hungary

Applying in Hungary for residence, work, study, family reunification or on other grounds may require Georgian documents in Hungarian. OIF and Enter Hungary processes often use birth or marriage certificates, criminal record certificates, employment contracts, employer letters, proof of accommodation, bank statements, insurance and proof of family ties. The same person's name, surname, place and date of birth must match across all of them, so please send a passport copy before we start.

OIF's official 2026 information page explains the general rule on legalization and translation of authentic documents issued abroad, with exceptions under international agreements or bilateral practice, while each permit page sets its own attachments - a study residence application, for example, uses the Enter Hungary electronic form. The required file list must come from the current factsheet for your permit category, not someone else's old checklist. Uploading a file does not cancel the translation form requirement; the final answer comes from the OIF regional directorate handling the case or the relevant consulate.

Key Hungarian terms in documents

anyakönyvi kivonat - an official civil status extract; we confirm whether it concerns birth, marriage or another record. erkölcsi bizonyítvány - an official certificate on good conduct or criminal record status; its legal function must be rendered, not just the title. lakcímkártya - the address card, with all fields, status and codes. adóazonosító jel / adókártya - a person's tax identification number or card, copied unchanged and never confused with a company tax number. TAJ-szám - the health insurance identification number, digits kept exact with a functional explanation where needed. cégkivonat - the company register extract, with status, representation, address and registration data. meghatalmazás - a power of attorney, with scope, term and substitution rights exact. határozat - a decision or administrative ruling, rendered with the right Georgian legal term for its context.

Education, business, medical and legal texts

Education. University admission, scholarships, exchanges, professional recognition or credit transfer usually need the transcript, curriculum, subject list, hours, credits and qualification level, not just the diploma. Georgian grades are never converted to Hungarian marks unless the university specifies a method; the academic equivalence is set by the university or competent education authority. Business and tax. Company extracts, articles, partners' decisions, powers of attorney, invoices, tax certificates, financial statements, bank letters and contracts, with legal form, registered address, representation, activities and identification numbers exact. NAV codes and numbers are copied unchanged - one wrong digit can link a document to another person or company. See registry extract translation. Medical. Diagnoses, lab values, medicines, doses, procedures, allergies and recommendations for consultations, continued treatment, insurance or surgery planning. Latin and international terms keep their form, figures and units are double-checked, and TAJ and insurance data are translated alongside the medical content. See medical translation. Legal. Hungarian is agglutinative: grammatical relations are often expressed by suffixes, so mechanical word transfer easily changes who owes what to whom. Contracts keep parties, obligations, deadlines, liability and annexes; judgments keep the body, case number, procedural status, reasoning and operative part; powers of attorney state exactly what the representative may sign, dispose of, file or delegate, and for how long. See legal translation.

Hungarian uses long vowels and double accents - á, é, í, ó, ö, ő, ú, ü, ű - and letter combinations such as cs, gy, ly, ny, sz, ty and zs that act as single sounds. Losing ő or ű in a name or address can change its official form, so we prepare texts in proper Unicode.

3

Set the OFFI/notary need

4

Receive the package

Electronically, at the office or by another agreed route.

Price, turnaround and quality control

We quote after seeing the full file and its purpose, taking account of pages, text density, handwriting, specialist terms and certification - a one-page anyakönyvi extract and a multi-page judgment are priced separately. The price is by agreement. See translation prices. You can order at our Tbilisi office on Davit Aghmashenebeli Ave or entirely online from Batumi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Hungary or elsewhere; notarization, certified copies or binding may need the original, which we tell you as soon as we see the document.

The final check starts with identifiers: the passport's Latin name, the Hungarian name order, birth data, TAJ, tax number, case number and address are compared, then every attachment, back page, seal and electronic element. For several documents we keep one checklist - including the mother's birth surname, which Hungarian records often show - so we can tell a format difference from a real mismatch, which is never silently corrected.

Frequently asked questions about Hungarian translation

Will a Hungarian translation certified in Georgia be accepted in Hungary?

The Hungarian recipient decides. We can prepare the translation for notarization in Georgia, but that does not automatically equal an OFFI certified translation. Send the office's letter or requirement link first.

When should I go to OFFI for a certified translation?

According to OFFI, where a Hungarian legal rule explicitly requires a certified translation, OFFI does it, save for legal exceptions. A private contract, bank or university may accept another form, so check the recipient's written requirement.

Can a Georgian or Hungarian document be submitted without an apostille?

Sometimes, depending on the document type, country of use and recipient. Both countries are parties to the Apostille Convention, but that does not mean every public document must be apostilled; the requirement and the competent issuer follow from the document type.

Can a Hungarian translation start from a scan?

The assessment and many translations start from a clear PDF, with every page, back, attachment, seal, signature, QR code and apostille included. A physical notarial act or an authentic electronic result needs the original or an electronic signature check.

If the surname comes first in a Hungarian document, do you swap it?

We never rearrange data arbitrarily. We read the field headings, compare the passport's Latin entry and format the result so identity is unambiguous, checking married surnames and variants across documents.

Which Georgian documents are translated for Enter Hungary?

It depends on the permit. Common ones are civil certificates, criminal record certificate, work and accommodation documents, bank material, insurance and proof of family ties; the exact list comes from the current OIF factsheet for your category.

Does losing ő and ű affect an official translation?

Yes. The diacritic is part of Hungarian spelling, and losing it can change a name, address or term. We keep the source form in Unicode and compare personal data with the passport and official fields.
