Italian Translation - Italian to Georgian and Georgian to Italian

Italy is home to one of the largest Georgian communities in Europe, and the documents that travel between the two countries reflect that: work permits, family reunification files, residence renewals, marriages and births registered in Italy, diplomas sent for recognition. TARGMANEBI translates between Italian and Georgian and prepares each document in the form the Italian or Georgian authority will accept.

This page covers written translation. For an interpreter at a notary, a meeting or a medical appointment, see the Italian interpreter page.

Italian procedures often involve two sides: an office in Italy - a prefecture's immigration desk, a questura, a comune - and the Italian embassy in Tbilisi, which checks and sometimes certifies documents before they travel. Knowing which side will read the translation, and in what form, is the first thing we establish.

Italian into Georgian

Italian documents come into Georgian when a Georgian office has to act on them: a marriage or birth registered in an Italian comune being recorded in Georgia, an Italian court decision on custody or divorce, a contract with an Italian employer, a certificate from an Italian hospital. We translate every entry, stamp and annotation, including the standard formulas of Italian civil status extracts.

Italian administrative language is formal and dense - "certificato di stato di famiglia", "estratto per riassunto", "permesso di soggiorno". Where Georgia has no identical document, the Italian name is kept and explained, so the Georgian reader knows precisely what they are looking at.

Georgian into Italian

Georgian documents go into Italian for the embassy, prefectures, questure, comuni, universities, employers and courts. The translation uses Italian official style and the terms Italian offices expect, with dates and addresses in Italian format.

Names are copied from the Latin spelling in your passport. Italian offices link your file through the codice fiscale and your passport data, so a name spelled differently in one translation can hold up a residence permit or a registration. We keep one spelling throughout.

For family reunification and work permits, send all documents together. We translate them as one package with a consistent spelling of every name, which is exactly what the Italian offices check.

Italian translation for family reunification

Family reunification ("ricongiungimento familiare") starts with the relative living in Italy obtaining a Nulla Osta, then continues with a visa application at the Italian embassy in Tbilisi. The Georgian side of the file usually includes birth and marriage certificates and, where relevant, consent from the other parent for a child, all with apostilles and Italian translations.

Once the family member arrives, the same documents are used again for the residence permit and registration in the comune. A careful translation made once, with the apostille translated too, saves repeating the work at every stage.

Nulla Osta, work and residence documents

A Nulla Osta is the clearance issued in Italy - for work, for family reunification, for study - which the embassy then needs to see before issuing a visa. We translate Nulla Osta documents from Italian into Georgian for the person receiving them, and the supporting Georgian documents into Italian for the procedure itself.

For work, the file often includes the employment contract, experience certificates and diplomas. For residence renewals, documents like the criminal record certificate and family status certificates come up repeatedly. Each is translated in the form the office asks for, and we note which ones are likely to need an apostille.

Study and the Dichiarazione di valore

To enrol at an Italian university or to have a Georgian qualification recognised, you usually need an Italian translation of the diploma, the supplement or transcripts, and a document confirming the value of the qualification. Traditionally this is the "Dichiarazione di valore in loco", issued by the Italian diplomatic mission; many universities also accept a CIMEA statement of comparability.

Both routes depend on a complete translation of the academic documents - every subject, credit and grade, with the Georgian grading scale explained as the original gives it. We prepare the translation so that it can be used for either route, and we confirm with you which one your university asks for.

Legal, medical and business Italian

Legal. Contracts, powers of attorney, inheritance documents and court decisions, translated with consistent legal terminology. See legal translation. Medical. Discharge letters, test results and prescriptions, with drug names and doses checked separately. See medical translation. Business. Italy is a trading partner for Georgian wine, food, furniture and equipment. We translate offers, agreements, specifications, invoices and correspondence so that both sides read the same terms.

Italian translation with notarization and apostille

A translation for official use in Georgia is notarized. For Italy, Georgia and Italy are both parties to the Apostille Convention, so Georgian public documents usually carry an apostille, which is then translated with the document. See notarization and apostille and legalization.

Inside Italy, some offices require a translation sworn before an Italian court ("traduzione asseverata") or certified by the consulate. If your procedure needs that form, we say so before the order.

Short certificates are usually ready within one or two working days; diplomas with supplements and legal documents take longer. Apostille timing depends on the Public Service Hall. Tell us your embassy appointment or the deadline set by the Italian office, and we will plan backwards from it.

Frequently asked questions about Italian translation

Do you translate a Nulla Osta into Georgian?

Yes. We translate the Nulla Osta and related Italian permits into Georgian, and the Georgian supporting documents into Italian for the same procedure.

Which documents are needed for family reunification?

Usually birth and marriage certificates, sometimes consent from the other parent for a child, all with apostilles and Italian translations. The exact list comes from the embassy and depends on the family member.

What is a Dichiarazione di valore?

A document issued by the Italian diplomatic mission describing the value of a foreign qualification in its own education system. Many universities also accept a CIMEA statement. Both need a full Italian translation of the diploma and transcripts.

Is an apostille required for Italy?

For Georgian public documents used in Italy, usually yes. Both countries are parties to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille replaces consular legalization; we translate the apostille too.

Do Italian offices accept translations made in Georgia?

The embassy works with translations prepared here for visa files. Some offices inside Italy ask for a translation sworn before an Italian court; we check your case before the order.

How long does an Italian translation take?

A certificate is usually ready within a day or two; a full package or a diploma with a supplement takes longer. We confirm the exact deadline when we see the documents.

Can relatives in Italy order for me?

Yes. Anyone can send us the documents online, and the translation can be delivered to an address in Georgia or sent electronically to Italy.
