Slovenian Interpreter and Document Translation

You need a Slovenian translator when a document issued in Slovenia must be used in Georgia, or a Georgian document must go to a Slovenian state body, university, employer, bank, clinic, court or business partner. An official translation is not just moving words between languages: the document type must be recognised, names and ID numbers carried over unchanged, Slovenian terminology understood and the form chosen that the final recipient will accept. TARGMANEBI translates between Slovenian and Georgian in both directions.

We translate personal, civil, immigration, educational, medical, financial, business and legal documents. Orders start online: you send a complete, clear photo or PDF, we check the pages, seals, signatures, attachments and required certification, then give you the exact price and deadline.

Preparing a Slovenian document correctly starts with the final requirement, not with translation: where it will be submitted, and whether an apostille, a notarized copy, certification by a court interpreter or translation of every attachment is needed.

Slovenian in official documents

Slovenian is a South Slavic language written in the Latin alphabet. The letters č, š and ž matter especially in official texts - dropping or replacing them can make a name, surname, city or institution look like a different one. Slovenian also has a dual grammatical number, which affects wording in some statements, consents and contracts.

Slovenian must not be confused with Slovak. Country names, agencies, civil registry terms and legal formulas differ. Slovenian business documents often show AJPES, PRS, matična številka and davčna številka, and personal data shows the EMŠO - so on receipt we first establish the language and origin of the document, then begin terminology work.

Slovenian civil register and eUprava extracts

In Slovenia birth, marriage and death are proved by civil register entries. The extracts are public documents and may contain personal data, citizenship, place of registration, parents' details, date of marriage and other legally significant information. The eUprava portal offers various certificates and extracts, so for an electronically obtained file every page and verification element is kept.

If an extract comes with a multilingual standard form, an extra page or an explanation, translating only the main sheet is often not enough - the recipient may want the whole package. Before translating we check for a back side, attachment, apostille, electronic signature data or QR code, so the final version reflects the document's full structure. See birth certificate translation.

EMŠO, davčna številka and other identifiers

The EMŠO is Slovenia's unique personal identification number. The davčna številka is the tax number used by FURS, the Financial Administration of Slovenia. Companies and organisations may also show a matična številka (registration number), VAT number, case number and other codes. None of these are translated in words: the digits and letters go across exactly.

The most common technical errors are reading 0 as O, confusing 1 and I, dropping a hyphen or copying a number differently on different pages. Data is checked against the passport, ID card or another part of the document. If the source contradicts itself, the translator does not quietly correct it; it is agreed with you and noted where needed.

Residence, work, family reunification and addresses

Entry and residence procedures in Slovenia depend on citizenship, purpose and length of stay. A third-country national may need a visa or a temporary or permanent residence permit; for work, the single residence and work permit procedure is common. The package may include the passport, birth or marriage certificate, criminal record certificate, proof of accommodation, employment contract, education documents and proof of means. For family reunification, certificates proving the relationship must agree - names, date of marriage, place of birth and parents' data - and for work, the position, employer and contract term must be exact. The receiving authority decides how it accepts foreign documents.

Address documents show municipality, settlement, street, house number, suffix and flat number. The safest practice is to keep the official Latin form of a Slovenian address and add a Georgian reading in brackets where useful. Leases, owner statements and address registration certificates must all show the same address - a missing diacritic in a settlement name can trigger later questions.

Notarized translation and the sodni tolmač

In Georgia a notarized translation usually means notarization of the translator's signature. In Slovenia, official procedures give an important role to the sodni tolmač - a court interpreter appointed under the relevant rules and authorised to translate documents at the request of a court or other body. According to Slovenia's official explanation, a certified translation of a public document issued there can be prepared by a court interpreter with signature, seal and binding to the source; the court interpreter register is published on GOV.SI.

That does not mean every translation made in Georgia will be rejected in Slovenia. The specific body, university, bank or employer decides: sometimes a translation notarized in Georgia is enough, sometimes a Slovenian court interpreter's version is required. Send us the written requirement before ordering.

Apostille and legalization of Slovenian documents

An apostille is not a translation and does not confirm content; it confirms the signature, the signatory's capacity and the seal. In Slovenia, competence depends on the signatory and document type: the Ministry of Justice certifies the signatures of certain judges, notaries and court interpreters, while other official signatures may fall to the district courts. Official information is on eUprava under authentication of public documents.

The order of translation and apostille is set in advance. If the apostille goes on the original, its text usually belongs in the translation; if the translation is made first and then certified, the procedure is arranged differently. For a Slovenian document used in Georgia we check whether an apostille or other certification is needed and translate the document, seals, apostille and attachments; for a Georgian document going to Slovenia we check the recipient's requirement and translate the full original, apostille and notarial notes. See apostille and legalization.

AJPES, PRS, contracts and FURS documents

Slovenian business documents often refer to AJPES - the Agency for Public Legal Records and Related Services - and PRS, the Slovenian Business Register. An extract may show the legal name, short name, registered address, form of activity, representatives, registration number and other data. The SPOT portal is used for company registration and dealings with the administration. The legal company name usually stays in its source form; forms such as d.o.o. or s.p. may be explained, but the abbreviation is never lost. See registry extract translation.

Service, sale, lease, distribution, agency, employment and confidentiality contracts need definitions, obligations, deadlines, penalties, liability, governing law and dispute resolution rendered exactly; bilingual contracts are built on a single glossary, and tables, annexes, prices and specifications are part of the main text. FURS manages the tax register and tax numbers; tax registration certificates, returns, debt or income certificates, bank statements, payslips, invoices and audit material keep their date formats, decimal separators, currency and periods. A legal review before signing is still advisable - the translator translates the text, not the parties' interests.

Education, medical and legal texts

Education. Assessment and recognition of foreign education in Slovenia can serve different purposes. The ENIC-NARIC centre works on assessment of education, while recognition for further study is often done by the institution itself during admission, so we need to know whether the diploma is for employment, a profession or university entry. A full package often includes the diploma, transcript or supplement, subject list, credits, mode of study and qualification title; grades are never converted into the Slovenian system unless specifically requested. Medical. Diagnoses, history, test results, surgery descriptions, medicines, dosage, allergies, recommendations and follow-up plans. Units, reference ranges and result signs stay unchanged; brand names are not translated, and handwriting is rendered only where clearly legible. See medical translation. Legal. Case number, court, party status, operative part, entry into force and appeal deadline in judgments; the exact list, term and body for each power of attorney; confirmation notes, register numbers, seals, signatures and identification descriptions in notarial acts. Where the source carries an apostille or consular legalization sheet, it goes into the package. See legal translation.

Names follow the passport's Latin entry; č, š and ž never disappear. Double surnames, married and birth surnames and older forms in different documents are all checked, and official Slovenian names of cities and agencies are kept, with a Georgian explanation only where needed.

Price and turnaround for Slovenian translation

Page and word count, document complexity, file quality, notarization and apostille, and urgency all affect the estimate - one page may hold a few sentences or dense tables. The price is by agreement. See translation prices. For electronic documents from eUprava or SPOT with electronic signatures, time stamps, QR codes or verification addresses, send the downloaded PDF rather than a cropped screenshot.

You can order from Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, anywhere in Georgia or from abroad - no office visit is needed for an assessment, and we ask for the original only when a specific certification requires it. The finished electronic version comes as a PDF; a certified paper copy is handed over as agreed. If you already have the recipient's letter or link, send it with the order.

Frequently asked questions about Slovenian translation

Can a Slovenian translation be notarized?

Yes, with notarization of the translator's signature in Georgia. A specific Slovenian office may, however, require a version certified by a Slovenian court interpreter (sodni tolmač), so always check the final form with the recipient.

Are Slovenian and Slovak the same language?

No. Slovenian is the official language of Slovenia and Slovak of Slovakia. Both are Slavic, but grammar, vocabulary, official terminology and document forms differ, so the right language must be identified.

What is the EMŠO and how is it translated?

It is Slovenia's unique personal identification number. The number itself is copied unchanged and its name explained in context; every digit must match the source.

Does a Slovenian document always need an apostille?

No. It depends on the document type, country of issue, receiving state and procedure. The apostille confirms the signature, capacity and seal, not the correctness of the content.

Can I send the document as a photo or PDF?

Yes. A clear photo or full PDF is usually enough to assess and start, with edges, seals, signatures, QR code and attachments visible. The original may be needed for official submission.

Do you translate AJPES and Slovenian company documents?

Yes - business register extracts, articles, partners' decisions, contracts, invoices, financial certificates and other corporate documents.

How do I prepare a Georgian document for Slovenia?

First confirm the receiving body's requirement: original, apostille, notarized copy, Slovenian translation or certification by a Slovenian court interpreter. Then the right sequence is set and the full package prepared.
