This page covers written translation. For an interpreter at a meeting, a notary or a medical appointment, see the French interpreter page.
French administrations are exacting about form. For many procedures inside France they ask for a translation by a "traducteur assermenté" - a translator sworn at a French court of appeal. For others, including most applications made from Georgia, a translation certified here is the usual route. We check which of the two your procedure needs before the work starts.

French into Georgian
French documents come into Georgian when a Georgian body needs to rely on them: a French "acte de naissance" or "acte de mariage" recorded in the Georgian civil register, a French diploma submitted for recognition, a judgment from a French court, the statutes of a French company opening a branch in Tbilisi. We translate the full content, including the marginal notes ("mentions marginales") that French civil status records often carry and that are easy to overlook.
French legal and administrative terms have precise meanings. Where Georgian law has no exact counterpart - an "extrait Kbis", a "livret de famille", a "pacte civil de solidarité" - we keep the French term and explain it in the translation, rather than replace it with a Georgian term that means something different.
Georgian into French
Georgian documents go into French for the embassy, French and Belgian universities, prefectures, employers, notaries and courts. The translation follows French administrative conventions for dates, addresses and document structure, and it reads as a French official text rather than as a literal rendering of Georgian.
Your name is spelled exactly as it appears in the Latin part of your passport, with no French adaptation. French prefectures and universities compare names across every document in a file, and one inconsistent letter is enough for a request for corrections.
Applying to a French university or preparing a visa file? Send the whole package at once. One translator, one spelling of your name and one terminology across all documents make the file easier to check and quicker to accept.
French translation for the embassy and visas
Short-stay and long-stay visa applications for France, and for other French-speaking Schengen countries, usually need translations of the civil status documents, proof of income or sponsorship and, for long stays, the documents supporting the purpose - study, work or family. Requirements differ by visa type and change over time, so we work from the current list you have received from the embassy or the visa centre.
For family procedures - joining a spouse, registering a marriage concluded in Georgia with French authorities, recording a child's birth - the core documents are the birth and marriage certificates, usually with an apostille. We translate the apostille along with the document, so the French authority sees both in French.
French translation for Campus France and study
Georgian students applying to French higher education usually go through the Campus France procedure, which involves an online file, supporting documents and an interview. Diplomas, supplements and transcripts must be translated in full into French, and the grading scale should be explained exactly as the Georgian document gives it.
Recognition of qualifications in France is handled by ENIC-NARIC France, which issues comparability certificates for foreign diplomas. It needs the same careful translation of every subject, credit and grade. We do not convert grades into the French 20-point scale ourselves - that is for the university or ENIC-NARIC - but we give them everything they need to do it.
Legal, medical and business French
Legal. Contracts, powers of attorney, court decisions, inheritance documents and company statutes, translated by a legal translator with consistent terminology across the whole document. See legal translation. Medical. Discharge summaries ("comptes rendus"), test results, prescriptions and insurance documents, with diagnoses, drug names and doses checked separately against the original. See medical translation. Business. Commercial offers, agreements, presentations, websites and correspondence for French-speaking partners in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Africa, written in natural business French rather than translated word for word.French translation with notarization and apostille
In Georgia, the translator's signature on a French translation is certified by a notary when an official form is required. Georgia and France are both parties to the Apostille Convention, so Georgian public documents for France are usually apostilled rather than legalized. See notarization and apostille and legalization.
Some French authorities - certain town halls, courts and prefectures - accept only a translation by a traducteur assermenté. When your procedure falls into that category we tell you before the order, so you do not pay twice for the same document.

Price and turnaround for French translation
The price depends on the direction, the volume of text, the subject and the form of certification. A set of documents for one application is quoted together. See translation prices for general guidance.
A standard certificate is usually ready within one or two working days; a diploma with a long supplement, a contract or a medical history takes longer. If you have a Campus France deadline, an embassy appointment or a court date, tell us, and we will plan the translation and certification around it.
Preparing a Campus France file, a visa application or a contract with a French-speaking partner? Send us the documents - you will get the price, the deadline and a clear answer on the form of translation required.

Do you translate in both directions?
Yes, from French into Georgian and from Georgian into French, for personal, academic, legal, medical and business documents.
Do I need a traducteur assermenté?
For some procedures inside France - certain town halls, courts and prefectures - yes. For applications made from Georgia, including most embassy and Campus France files, a translation certified in Georgia is normally used. We check this before the order.
Which documents does Campus France need translated?
Typically the school certificate or diploma, the supplement or transcripts with every subject and grade, and sometimes certificates of enrolment. The exact list depends on your level and programme; send us your checklist.
Is an apostille needed for France?
For Georgian public documents used in France, usually yes: both countries are parties to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille replaces consular legalization. We translate the apostille together with the document.
Do you also work for Belgium, Switzerland and Canada?
Yes. The French is adapted where the recipient expects it, and we check the certification rules of the specific country, since they differ from those of France.
How long does a French translation take?
A short certificate is often ready within a day or two. Longer academic, legal or medical documents take more time; we confirm the exact deadline when we see the file.
Can I order online?
Yes. Send clear photos or scans by WhatsApp or email and receive the translation electronically, with certified paper delivered by courier or collected in Tbilisi.
