A Lithuanian translator is needed when a document goes to Georgia, Lithuania or another country and its information must come across accurately, consistently and fit for official use - a civil registry extract, a residence permit document, a company extract, a university diploma, a medical report, a contract, a bank document, or a Georgian paper sent to a Lithuanian institution.
An official translation must reflect the issuing agency, register name, personal or legal code, date, status, address, seal, signature, electronic certification record and every annex. We also establish in advance whether an apostille, notarization, the original or binding in a specific form is needed.
Two directions between Georgia and Lithuania
Lithuanian into Georgian typically covers civil status extracts, residence certificates, Migration Department letters, MIGRIS notifications, employment contracts, company register documents, court materials and medical certificates. Georgian into Lithuanian mostly covers birth, marriage, divorce, criminal record, education, employment, income and family ties documents.
The form always follows the final purpose: an informational translation may do for personal reference, while a package for a state body may need notarization of the signature, binding with the original or a certified copy, and full translation of the apostille. So we ask where the document goes and what the recipient has told you.

Lithuanian diacritics, surname forms and official entries
Lithuanian is a Baltic language using the Latin alphabet with extra marks. Official documents often show ą, č, ę, ė, į, š, ų, ū, ž, and dropping one can change a name, surname, street, municipality or organisation. Data is therefore copied from the document itself, not from a client's verbal explanation.
For names we compare the Lithuanian entry, the passport's Latin form and earlier Georgian translations. If one person's data differs between documents, we clarify it first; where needed the Latin form stays in brackets in the Georgian text, so the recipient can link the person to the original.
Registrų centras and the population register
Registrų centras, the State Enterprise Centre of Registers, runs several key registers, including the population register, the register of legal entities and the real estate register, with self-service tools for viewing data, filing applications and receiving extracts.
Population register documents may show Gyventojų registras (population register), civilinės būklės akto įrašo išrašas (extract of a civil status act record), the declared place of residence, personal data and civil status entries. Birth, marriage, divorce and death records are kept clearly apart. For electronically issued documents, the text about the electronic signature, time stamp, verification code or authenticity is translated too.
Civil status extracts, family documents and personal data
Lithuanian e-services let you request an extract, copy or certificate of a civil status act record. In practice these are used for marriage registration, registering a child's birth, family reunification, inheritance or proving a Lithuanian event in another country's register. Family relationships must be exact: mother, father, spouse, former spouse, child, birth surname, married surname and place of registration. If there is a multilingual form, we first check whether it satisfies the recipient; some still want a full Georgian or Lithuanian translation.
The asmens kodas (personal code) is never translated in words; the same digits are copied, as are passport, residence card, company, document registration and verification numbers. Addresses use Lithuanian abbreviations such as g. (street), pr. (avenue) and sav. (municipality); we decide which parts are translated and which transliterated, so the address is clear in Georgian yet easy to match to the Lithuanian record.
Documents for MIGRIS and the Migration Department
Lithuanian migration is managed by the Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior, and many applications run through the MIGRIS electronic system. Depending on the procedure, you may need documents supporting a temporary or permanent residence permit (leidimas gyventi), family member status, work, study, business activity or other grounds.
A MIGRIS package must be consistent - name and surname read the same in the passport, birth and marriage certificates and employment documents. If a Georgian document is apostilled, every apostille field is translated; multi-page certificates keep their page order and annexes. Check in the specific service instruction whether a scan is accepted, whether the original is needed and what certification is required.
Before uploading to MIGRIS, check the full contents of the file: original, apostille, translation, every page, seal and signature.
Company, property and business documents
The Register of Legal Entities (Juridinių asmenų registras) is part of the Registrų centras system. A company extract may include the legal entity code, name, legal form, registered address, director, representation rights, status and registration dates, often used at a bank, with a partner, in a tender, in court or when registering in Georgia. Business packages may also include JADIS and JANGIS data, articles, shareholder decisions, beneficial owner information, invoices, VAT documents, audit reports and contracts, with terminology unified in advance. See registry extract translation.
The Real Estate Register (Nekilnojamojo turto registras) extract may show the object's unique number, cadastral data, owner, co-owners, mortgage, restriction, servitude or other registered right. These are tied to legal effect, so no term is simplified and nothing is left out; area units, shares, address, purpose and the basis of registration are checked, and attached contracts, notarial acts or maps are assessed as one package.
Lithuanian diplomas, school certificates and SKVC
SKVC, the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education, plays a key role in assessing and recognising foreign qualifications in Lithuania; depending on the case, an authorised higher education institution or another body may assess them instead. Translating only the diploma's first page is often not enough - the package may include the supplement, transcript, subjects, credits, length of study, qualification, degree and authenticity information. The education level is rendered precisely rather than equated with another country's system, with the original Lithuanian or English term in brackets where needed.
Under SKVC's general requirements for 2026, electronically submitted copies must be made from the original, in colour, clear and fully legible, and SKVC may ask for originals during assessment. Documents not in English, Belarusian, Polish, Russian or Ukrainian usually need an official translation into Lithuanian or English, which SKVC describes as a translation bound to a certified true copy and confirmed by the translator's signature. Country- and qualification-specific requirements may differ, so check the instruction before applying.
Apostille, legalization and the EU rules
An apostille confirms the signature and seal on a public document but does not change its content. For a Georgian document used in Lithuania, the apostille is usually obtained first and then the document and apostille are translated together; for a Lithuanian document used in Georgia, we establish who issues the apostille and how the Georgian office accepts it. Since 18 January 2016 apostilles in Lithuania are normally issued by Lithuanian notaries; according to the HCCH record, the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs covers only documents from Lithuanian diplomatic missions and consular posts. According to the Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries, from 1 October 2026 notaries will be able to issue electronic apostilles on documents bearing a qualified electronic signature or seal; the paper procedure continues unchanged, so keep the original electronic container, signature, seal and verification data. See apostille and legalization.
The EU public documents regulation removes the apostille requirement for certain documents only between EU member states, and provides multilingual standard forms in some areas. Georgia is not an EU member state, so that intra-EU simplification does not automatically apply to documents moving between Georgia and Lithuania - applying another EU country's experience directly to a Georgian case is one of the most common mistakes.
Notarization in Georgia and acceptance in Lithuania
The standard notarized translation in Georgia means the notary certifies the translator's signature, not the content or the original's authenticity. A Lithuanian recipient may want another form - a certified copy, a local notary's or translator's format, or presentation with the original. We do not assume one form fits every office; we ask for the requirement text, email or application instruction and prepare the translation accordingly, so you neither pay for unnecessary certification nor miss a required step. See notarization.
Legal documents keep party status, rights, obligations, deadlines, sanctions and consistent terms; medical translations put diagnosis, tests, medicines, doses, dates and recommendations first; employment documents check position, hours, salary, term and the employer's legal data; financial documents keep amounts, currencies, IBAN, purpose and period exact. See legal translation and medical translation.
Preparing a Georgian document for Lithuania
The Lithuanian requirement
Send the receiving office's requirement and tell us where in Lithuania you are submitting.
Original, annexes and apostille
We take every page, annex, apostille, seal and back-side entry.
Names and codes checked
Names, dates, codes, terms and page order are verified.
A package Lithuania accepts
An electronic version, notarized form or physical package, as agreed.
Price, turnaround and sending files
Price depends on more than page count: one page may be a short certificate or several tables, register entries, seals and small print. Word volume, subject complexity, file quality, handwriting, formatting, apostille, notarization and deadline all count. The price is by agreement and set after we see every page. See translation prices.
Send every page in one message as a PDF or clear photos taken straight on, without shadow or glare, all four edges visible, including the back, annexes and apostille. The finished translation can be received electronically, at the office or by agreed delivery; for a notarized document we settle in advance whether the original is needed.

What does a Georgian notary certify on a translation for Lithuania?
The translator's signature, for translations in either direction. The Lithuanian or Georgian recipient may also want an apostille on the original, a certified copy or a specific format, so confirm the requirement first.
Can I send a Lithuanian document as a photo or PDF?
Yes, for assessment and to start work, with all four edges, seals, signatures, annexes and any back-side information visible. The original or a good copy may be needed for binding or certification.
How are Lithuanian names written in Georgian?
They are checked against the passport's Latin form and the document entry, with special care for ą, č, ę, ė, į, š, ų, ū, ž and consistent spelling on every page; the Latin form can stay in brackets.
What is Registrų centras?
Lithuania's Centre of Registers, running the population, legal entities and real estate registers and related e-services. In its extracts the register name, code, status, entry date and electronic certification data are translated exactly.
Can you translate documents for MIGRIS?
Yes - passports, family status, residence, education, employment and other evidence for MIGRIS and Migration Department procedures. Language, certification, apostille and file format depend on the specific service.
Does a Georgian document for Lithuania need an apostille or a translation first?
Usually the Georgian original is apostilled or otherwise certified first, then everything - document, apostille sheet, seals and notes - is translated. The exact order follows the recipient's requirement.
Which study pages should go to SKVC with the diploma?
The diploma, supplement, transcript, credits, subject list, qualification and institution certificates. SKVC and in some cases authorised universities assess foreign qualifications, so prepare the full package for your purpose.
