This page is about written translation. For an interpreter at a meeting, a medical consultation or a notary, see the German interpreter page.
German authorities have a distinctive rule that shapes everything else: for many procedures inside Germany they expect a translation by a translator sworn or authorised by a German court. For other procedures - the embassy in Tbilisi among them - a translation made and certified in Georgia is the normal route. Knowing which applies saves both time and money, so that is the first thing we establish.

German into Georgian
German documents come into Georgian when a Georgian body has to act on them: a marriage registered in Germany being recorded here, a German degree being recognised, a German court decision being enforced, a German company opening a branch, a patient returning with a German hospital report. We translate them into the terminology the Georgian recipient uses and keep the structure of the original.
German administrative writing packs a great deal into long compound nouns and precise legal categories. Terms such as "Aufenthaltstitel", "Beglaubigung" or "Vollmacht" have exact meanings, and where Georgian law has no identical institution we name the German term and explain it, rather than substitute something that only looks similar.
Georgian into German
Georgian documents go into German for the embassy, universities, the recognition authorities, employers, registry offices and courts. The German reader compares the translation against German templates, so it follows German official style and conventions - dates, addresses and document structure included.
Names follow the Latin spelling in your passport exactly. German authorities cross-check names across every document in a file, and a name spelled one way on the diploma and another on the passport is a common reason for a request for further documents. We fix the spelling once and use it throughout.
German authorities check the whole file together. Send us all the documents for one application at once - passport, certificates, diploma, supplement - and they will be translated with one spelling and one terminology.
German translation for the embassy and visas
Visa applications at the German embassy in Tbilisi - for family reunification, study, work or a national visa - require the Georgian documents with a German translation. Civil status documents usually also need an apostille. The embassy publishes the requirements for each visa type, and those requirements change, so we work from the current checklist you have received rather than from memory.
For family reunification the typical package is the marriage certificate and birth certificates of the children, with apostilles and German translations. For a student visa it is the school certificate or diploma, the university's admission letter and proof of funds. We translate the whole package together so the names, dates and document numbers match across it.
Diplomas, study and recognition of qualifications
To study in Germany or to work in a regulated profession, a Georgian qualification usually has to be evaluated or recognised. Universities often work through uni-assist, and the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) issues statements of comparability for foreign degrees. Both want the diploma and its supplement with every subject, hour and grade translated in full.
The supplement is the part that decides the outcome. The recognition body compares your programme subject by subject with the German one, so subject names have to be rendered consistently and the grading scale stated exactly as the Georgian document defines it. We do not convert grades ourselves - that is the recognition body's job - but we make sure it has everything it needs to do it.
German translation for work visas and the EU Blue Card
For a German work visa or an EU Blue Card the file usually includes the diploma and its recognition or statement of comparability, the employment contract or job offer, a CV and proof of professional experience. For regulated professions - doctors, nurses, engineers in some fields - a professional recognition procedure comes first, and it asks for detailed training records and work certificates.
Work certificates from Georgian employers are often short. German authorities expect them to describe the position, the duties and the period of employment. We translate what the certificate says, and if it is too thin for the purpose we tell you before translating, so you can ask the employer for a fuller version.
Legal, medical, technical and financial German
Legal. Contracts, powers of attorney, company documents and court decisions, translated by a legal translator with the terminology kept consistent. See legal translation. Medical. Arztbriefe, discharge summaries, test results and insurance documents, with diagnoses, drugs and doses checked separately. See medical translation. Technical and financial. German engineering documentation, equipment manuals and specifications, as well as bank statements and financial reports, with numbers and units checked against the original. See technical translation and financial translation.German translation with notarization and apostille
In Georgia, a German translation is notarized when a Georgian body or a foreign recipient asks for an official certification. The apostille is a separate step, placed on public documents for use abroad; Georgia and Germany are both parties to the Apostille Convention. See notarization and apostille and legalization.
For procedures inside Germany - a registry office, a court, some recognition bodies - a translation by a translator sworn in Germany may be required instead. In that case we tell you so before the order, and our part may be limited to the apostille.
How a German translation order runs
Send the documents and the checklist
Photos or PDFs of every page, plus the embassy checklist or the authority's letter, by WhatsApp or to info@targmanebi.ge.
Confirm the form
We confirm whether a Georgian notarized translation is accepted or a German sworn translation is needed, and quote the price and deadline.
Translation and checking
The package is translated with one spelling of your name; subjects, grades, dates and numbers are checked against the originals.
Delivery
You receive the files electronically and the certified paper in Tbilisi or by courier, ready to take to the embassy.
Price and turnaround for German translation
The price depends on the direction, the volume of text, the subject and the certification. A package for one visa application is quoted as a whole, which is usually cheaper than translating the documents one by one. See translation prices.
A civil status certificate is usually ready within one or two working days, a diploma with a long supplement takes longer, and apostille timing depends on the Public Service Hall. If you have an embassy appointment, give us the date first: the order is planned backwards from it.
Preparing a German visa, a university application or a Blue Card file? Send us the documents and the checklist - you will get the price, the deadline and a clear answer on which form of translation the authority accepts.

Does the German embassy in Tbilisi accept translations made in Georgia?
For visa applications the embassy works with German translations of Georgian documents prepared here. Its checklists specify which documents need an apostille and how they should be presented; send us yours and we will match it.
Do I need a translator sworn in Germany?
For some procedures inside Germany - registry offices, courts, some recognition bodies - yes. For the embassy and many other purposes, no. We check the requirement before the order, so you do not pay for a translation the authority will not accept.
Which documents do I need for a Blue Card?
Typically the diploma with its supplement, the statement of comparability or recognition, the employment contract or job offer, a CV and proof of experience. The exact list depends on your profession; regulated professions need a separate recognition first.
Should the whole diploma supplement be translated?
Yes. Recognition bodies compare your programme subject by subject, so every subject, hour and grade is translated, with the grading scale stated exactly as the Georgian document gives it.
Where does the apostille go?
On the original Georgian public document in most cases, before translation, so that the apostille itself is translated too. Some recipients want it on the notarized translation instead; we confirm this for your case.
How long does a German translation take?
A short certificate is usually ready within a day or two; a diploma with a supplement or a full visa package takes longer. Apostilles follow the Public Service Hall schedule. Give us your appointment date and we will plan around it.
Can I order from outside Tbilisi?
Yes. Send the documents online and receive the translation by email; certified paper is collected in Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi or delivered by courier anywhere in Georgia.
