A translation bureau for Chiatura - TARGMANEBI's service for a town whose documents have a character of their own. A Chiatura pensioner's work record book is often forty years of history in Russian, with the stamps of three different enterprises, faded ink and an entry for "hazardous conditions" on which the size of the pension depends. A Chiatura miner's medical file is the history of an occupational disease that has to be translated exactly for an insurer, a court or a foreign clinic. Working with such documents differs from translating an ordinary certificate, and that is what this page is about.
Kutaisi is an hour and a half from Chiatura and Tbilisi three and a half, while the town itself is built on terraces and linked to its districts by cable car. So our service is arranged from the outset so that nobody in Chiatura has to travel anywhere: a photo of the document from a phone, translation and certification in Tbilisi, and the finished paper by courier to Chiatura - to the centre, to Perevisa or to Itkhvisi, wherever we agree.
Work record book, service and hazardous conditions - pension documents
The pension agency accepts a foreign-language document only with a notarized Georgian translation, and most pension papers in Chiatura are in Russian. Three things matter especially here:
What gets translated
- Every completed page of the work record book, corrections and stamps included
- The certificate of work in hazardous or heavy conditions
- Archival extracts on service and salary
- Award, rank and qualification certificates
- Military card and service certificate
What is deciphered separately
- Handwritten entries and abbreviations (GOK, TsOF, uchastok, razryad)
- Enterprise stamps from all three eras - Soviet, 1990s, modern
- Entries on transfer, secondment and dismissal
- Corrected dates and the notes confirming them
- The job title under the Soviet and the Georgian classifier
What is checked at the end
- Given name and surname against the Georgian identity card
- Every date and order number, digit by digit
- Continuity of service - that no pages are missing
- Illegible passages - marked with a note, never guessed
- Page numbering and the completeness of the document
The most frequent problem in translating a work record book is the spelling of the name: in the Soviet book it appears in Russian form with a patronymic, sometimes under a different surname before marriage, and differently again on the modern identity card. In the translation we use the spelling of the valid identity card and give the original form in a note; that is how the agency recognises the document as yours. So we always ask for a photo of the identity card along with the record book.
Occupational disease, injury and medical documents
A miner's medical documents are translated for three purposes. First, treatment or a consultation abroad: the discharge summary, X-ray and spirometry reports, and the occupational physician's diagnosis in the foreign clinic's language. Second, an insurance or court case: the accident report, the medical expert opinion, the certificate of loss of working capacity - often into English or Russian, with notarization. Third, employment abroad: the medical examination certificate a foreign mine or construction company requires. In all three the text goes to a medical-profile translator; international diagnosis codes, test values and drug names are checked against the original separately.
Mining qualifications abroad
Miners, blasting foremen, electrical mechanics and cable car operators from Chiatura have in recent years gone to mines in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Australia - in the same trade, for higher pay. A foreign mining company asks for the whole chain of qualifications: the vocational college diploma, the mine safety certificate, the permit for blasting work, a service certificate with a description of the work, the medical examination certificate and a criminal record certificate - in the employer's language, with an apostille and notarization. The job title is carried across in the term used by the receiving country's mining classifier, so that the employer does not confuse "miner" with "blasting foreman" - a difference that carries a wage difference with it.
Family papers and cable car tourism
Beyond the mine, Chiatura's families live ordinary lives and need ordinary papers - certificates in an embassy's language for someone joining a spouse in Europe; a school certificate for a child applying in Kutaisi or abroad; a power of attorney in Georgian from a child selling the family house from Poland; a foreign contract for the bank when taking out a loan. A new direction has been added in recent years: Chiatura's cable cars, the Katskhi pillar and the Mgvimevi monastery attract foreign visitors, and local guest houses, guides and cafes need descriptions, menus and route texts in English and Russian. Such material is prepared quickly and without certification.
Languages in orders from Chiatura
Because of the pension and medical archives, Russian outweighs every other language in Chiatura, in the direction of Georgian. For employment abroad the leaders are Polish, German, Czech and English; for family documents, Italian and Greek; for tourism, English and Ukrainian. Turkish, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Dutch come from Chiatura a few times a year.

Assessing the deciphering
Nobody can price a forty-year record book over the phone - first we go through it page by page, count how many entries there are and which read with difficulty, and only then write to you with the sum and the day.
Deciphering, translation, notary
A Russian-direction translator deciphers and translates the entries, the editor checks dates and names, and the notary certifies the translation. The original is not needed for this.
Paper in Chiatura
You receive the file at once. The paper for the agency comes to Chiatura by courier - to the centre or to a district - on an agreed day; if you are coming to Tbilisi, we will be expecting you at the office.
Price, turnaround and guarantee
A handwritten document takes more work than a printed one and costs more per page - that is the deciphering stage, not the town; a client in Chiatura pays no more than one in Tbilisi. A work record book with notarization is normally in your hands in three to four working days, a medical report in two to three, a one-page certificate in two; the timing of an apostille depends on the issuing authority. In pension and medical cases the cost of an error is high, so a confirmed inaccuracy is not only corrected free of charge but re-certified by the notary. The translation is signed by the person who owns the bureau - the sole trader Mariam Zumadze (ID 30601010853) - and the responsibility is hers, not an anonymous company's. Your diagnosis and your service record will not become known to anyone in Chiatura: two people see the file and it is used for nothing else.
The rehabilitation of Chiatura's cable cars and the modernisation of the mines are being carried out with foreign equipment and engineers - which brings translation of technical documentation and safety instructions, and, when a foreign specialist visits, an interpreter at the mine and the plant. Such orders are handled by a translator with a mining and technical profile, and a terminology base is created for the enterprise.

The "hazardous conditions" entry in the record book is handwritten and the stamp is faint. Will the agency accept it?
In the translation we carry the entry across as it reads and mark the unclear part with a note. If that entry is the decisive one, the agency may ask for a certificate from the enterprise or the archive - we tell you in advance, so that you can prepare both documents together.
The record book has my patronymic and my identity card does not. Is that a problem?
It is a common case. In the translation we write the name as the identity card has it and give the original's full form in a note - so the agency can see it is the same person. Send us a photo of the identity card together with the record book.
I am planning to work in a Polish mine. How is the blasting permit translated?
Into Polish, with an apostille and notarization, with the trade and the permit named in the term used by the Polish mining classifier. The employer often also needs a service certificate with a description of the work - we prepare both as one package.
How long for an occupational disease expert opinion in English for a foreign insurer?
Two to three working days, by a medical-profile translator, with notarization or the bureau stamp as the insurer requires. If the opinion comes with the work record book and the hazardous-conditions certificate, we handle them as one package so that the enterprise and section names are written identically throughout.
The document is in an upper district of Chiatura. Will the courier come up?
The courier comes to Chiatura on an agreed day and to an agreed place - the centre or a district, according to the route. The original travels only for an apostille; a pension record book needs only a photo and never leaves the house.
I am a cable car guide and need an English text for a tour. Do you do that too?
Yes - route descriptions, historical text, safety rules and menus in English, Russian or another language, without certification. Place names are transliterated identically across all the material.
