A translation bureau for Senaki - TARGMANEBI's service for a town where thousands of families live to the rhythm of one employer. Personnel from the Senaki base attend international courses in Europe, the United States and Turkey, take part in peacekeeping and training missions, and work with foreign instructors, and each of those stages brings its own group of documents: certificates that have to be translated into Georgian for a career; family papers that have to be put in order before a deployment; and medical and insurance documents needed after service.
Beside the base, Senaki has two more faces: a railway junction and its trade, where cargo from the port of Poti transfers to rail and the paperwork moves in Russian and English; and Nokalakevi, the ancient Archaeopolis, where international expeditions have worked for decades. Senaki families, military and civilian alike, live with the same papers as the rest of Samegrelo. Kutaisi is an hour from Senaki and Tbilisi four; the courier comes to the town weekly, independently of the base's own rhythm.
A service member's documents - course, mission, career
Documents from a foreign course or a mission are not classified - they are personal certificates, records and family papers serving a career and a household's everyday life:
Courses and qualifications
- Certificate from a foreign military college or course, in Georgian for the personnel file
- Language course results and international standard levels
- Medical, engineering or logistics speciality certificates
- Instructor qualifications from international programmes
- Recommendations and assessments from a foreign course
Before deployment - the family
- Power of attorney for a spouse over property, banking and the children
- Consent for a child to travel abroad when one parent is away
- A will or family agreement, where the family asks for one
- Certificates for the bank on deployment pay
- Family members' documents, where they live abroad
After service
- Foreign medical reports on an injury sustained during a mission
- Insurance and compensation documents from an international mission
- A veteran's medical history for treatment abroad
- Certificates of service and rank for civilian employment abroad
- Foreign awards and commendations in Georgian
In translating a foreign course certificate, the course name and level have to come across so that the personnel service can compare them with a Georgian qualification - so military terminology, ranks and specialities are written in their established Georgian equivalents, with the original term kept in brackets. A power of attorney before a deployment is the document to think through before signing: what rights remain with the spouse - banking, selling property, taking a child abroad - and for how long. That wording is drawn up by a Georgian notary; we come in when the spouse or child is abroad and the document has to be translated into their language.
Veterans - treatment and compensation abroad
Some of Senaki's veterans continue treatment abroad - in rehabilitation programmes, in partner countries' clinics, with the help of international foundations - and for that the Georgian medical history, diagnoses, test results and disability certificate are translated into the clinic's language, and on the way back the foreign reports and the rehabilitation plan into Georgian for the military hospital and the social service. In an insurance or compensation case over an injury sustained during a mission, foreign reports, medical opinions and correspondence with the insurer are translated into Georgian, and the Georgian documents into the insurer's language. A medical text goes to a medical translator, diagnosis codes and percentages are checked against the original, and one manager follows the case.
Nokalakevi and the railway
International archaeological expeditions work at the Nokalakevi site, and their documents - cooperation memoranda, permit applications, foreign researchers' papers, grant reports and publications - are translated in both directions by academic and legal translators. Senaki's railway junction generates a flow of logistics documents: rail waybills, cargo handover acts and customs papers for freight arriving from Poti and heading for Tbilisi - in Russian and English, urgently, with the bureau stamp.
Senaki families
A service family's papers often arrive together with civilian ones: a father heading on deployment needs a power of attorney, a sister a school certificate for a European university, a mother a Russian work record book for her pension, a brother a certificate for family reunification with an Italian spouse. In Senaki all of that is handled as one package with one transliteration, so that three generations' surname is spelled identically, and comes back on one courier run; anyone who has to be in Kutaisi collects it there.
Languages in orders from Senaki
Because of the foreign courses and missions, English outweighs every other language in Senaki - the language of international military cooperation; Turkish and German appear with partner countries' courses and clinics, Polish and Czech with training programmes. Russian and Ukrainian are the languages of the railway and older documents, Italian, Greek and Spanish of family papers, French of the Nokalakevi expeditions; Dutch, Arabic and Chinese are rare from Senaki.
The process for a service family
A photo and a date
A photo of the certificate, record or power of attorney by WhatsApp or by email to info@targmanebi.ge, with the date of the mission or course - we fit the package to it.
Personnel office, notary, clinic or embassy
Who the document is for decides the terminology - military, medical or legal - and the form of certification. Name the country of the mission and the host authority as well.
The right profile and one table
A military certificate goes to a translator who knows military terminology, a medical history to a medical one, a power of attorney to a legal one; family names are checked from one table.
Paper in Senaki - before departure
You receive the file at once; the certified package comes by courier to Senaki before the mission date. Anyone travelling to the course through Tbilisi collects it at the office, anyone passing through Kutaisi, there.
Price and turnaround
An order from Senaki is at Tbilisi prices and the courier here runs weekly. A military certificate or record is in the simple category - two to three days with notarization; a power of attorney and a consent are legal work - two to three days; a veteran's medical package three to five days; an insurance case without a queue, on the case's own deadline; a service family's full package before a deployment, one week. A service member's personal and medical documents are confidential and seen only by those working on the order. The duration and scope of a power of attorney is a legal question, and its text is reviewed personally by the bureau's head, the lawyer Mariam Zumadze (sole trader, ID 30601010853); an error by her team is corrected free of charge - a service family has no second chance before a deployment.
During visits by foreign instructors and partner country delegations, the Senaki base also needs an interpreter - at official meetings, at training and at briefings for international exercises. An interpreter who knows military terminology comes by prior arrangement, and for multi-day exercises the same person is assigned throughout; we work with restricted information only within the limits the host side sets.

I completed a military course in the United States and the certificate is in English. How is it translated for the personnel service?
Into Georgian, with notarization, with the course name and level in the established Georgian military equivalents and the original term in brackets. If the personnel service also asks for an apostille, that is affixed to the certificate in the issuing country - we establish that in advance.
I am going on a six-month deployment and my spouse stays with the children. Which documents should I arrange?
Before a Georgian notary: a power of attorney for your spouse over banking, property and the children, and a consent for a child to travel abroad if the family plans to. Our part begins if the spouse or child lives abroad and the document has to be translated into their language, or if the mission country's authority asks for the family's papers.
I was injured during a mission and the foreign hospital report and the insurer's letters are in English. What gets translated into Georgian?
The hospital discharge summary and report for the military hospital and the commission, notarized; the insurer's letters for information, plainly, and your reply to them in English. A medical translator compares diagnosis codes and percentages against the original, and one manager follows the case.
I am a veteran and want to be admitted to a German rehabilitation programme. Does the whole medical history have to be translated?
It depends on the programme's requirement - usually the diagnosis, the latest tests, the disability certificate and an extract from the treatment history, in German, with notarization. Send us the programme's questionnaire and we will translate only what is needed.
French researchers are joining the Nokalakevi expedition. What about their documents and the agreement?
A bilingual agreement with the university, a permit application to the cultural heritage agency in Georgian, and the researchers' passports and insurance in Georgian for residence; at the end of the season, the report and publications. Academic and legal translators work from one shared terminology base.
Will the courier come to the base?
The courier comes to Senaki on an agreed day and to an agreed place in the town, wherever suits you. Anyone who travels to Kutaisi anyway collects it there; the original travels only for an apostille.
