A translation bureau for Tsageri - TARGMANEBI's service for a municipality where wine exports are counted in cases rather than tonnes, and the price of a single bottle sometimes equals the invoice for a whole shipment. Producers of Usakhelouri and Tvishi - with less than fifty hectares of vineyards across both micro-zones - work abroad not with distributors but with sommeliers, collectors, auction houses and restaurants, and those relationships rest on documents of their own: a bottle passport, a provenance history, an auction lot description, an invoice covering a single case.
Lechkhumi's second economic theme is water - the Lajanuri hydropower plant and the small hydropower projects of recent years, which involve foreign capital and European standards. The third is Khvamli, the Lajanuri reservoir and family guesthouses. The fourth is Lechkhumi families whose children are in Europe. Kutaisi is two hours from Tsageri and Tbilisi four and a half - nobody should make that trip for the paperwork on twenty-four bottles, which is why an order from Lechkhumi starts on the phone and ends with the courier.
Rare wine - micro-export, auctions, collectors
When a shipment is twenty-four bottles and the buyer is an auction house or a private collector, the document package does not look like a standard export - it is about the bottle's history, not tonnage:
Bottle passport
- Technical sheet with the variety, micro-zone, vintage and number of bottles
- Provenance description - vineyard, cellar, storage conditions, bottle number
- Laboratory analysis and the National Wine Agency certificate
- Front and back label text to the requirements of the collectors' market
- Tasting notes in the sommelier's vocabulary
For the auction house and the buyer
- Lot description in the auction house's format
- Consignment or sale agreement with the auction house
- Invoice and declaration of authenticity for the collector
- Packing and shipping terms with temperature control
- Transit insurance for high-value cargo
For customs and the regulator
- Invoice and packing list for a small shipment
- Certificate of origin and customs declaration
- The importer's licence requirements in Georgian
- Alcohol excise and labelling rules from the destination country
- Order confirmations from restaurants and shops
In rare wine documents two things get particular attention: the number of bottles and their numbers - for a collector that is the basis of authenticity, and a single wrong digit kills the lot - and the style of the tasting and provenance notes, which in an auction catalogue have to sound like a sommelier, not a technical report. For each producer we build a terminology base in which the names of the vineyard, the village and the cellar are fixed once and stay the same from year to year - that consistency is exactly what a collector looks for.
Small hydropower - investor, community, environment
Small hydropower projects on Lechkhumi's rivers go ahead with foreign investors, financing from international banks and European environmental standards - and at every stage the documents are in two languages: the investor company's documents and contracts in Georgian for the municipality and the local partner; the environmental impact assessment and public consultation materials in Georgian for the village and in English for the bank; land easement and buy-out agreements with owners, often bilingual; technical specifications and construction documentation; employment contracts for local workers. A vineyard owner offered an easement by a hydropower company often needs not a full translation but a clause-by-clause comparison of the two versions - term, amount, the obligation to restore the vineyard - and that is done before signing, in one to two days.
Khvamli, Lajanuri and family guesthouses
Mount Khvamli, the Lajanuri reservoir and the valleys of Lechkhumi attract foreign hikers and wine lovers, and family guesthouses in Tsageri and the villages offer wine tours to Usakhelouri cellars. For them we translate guesthouse descriptions for booking platforms, wine tour programmes, texts on the Khvamli trails and caves, menus and wine lists, and contracts with tour operators in Kutaisi and Tbilisi - into English, Polish, German and other languages, without certification. In a wine tour text the names of varieties and cellars are written in the same transliteration as in the auction catalogue - this matters for the producer's brand.
Lechkhumi families
Beyond wine and hydropower, families in Tsageri live much like the rest of the mountainous west - children in Europe, the house in Lechkhumi, the vineyard often split between several co-owners, some of them abroad. Their papers are the usual ones - a certificate for an embassy, a school leaving certificate for a university in Kutaisi, a power of attorney from a brother abroad for vineyard matters, a grandmother's employment record book for her pension - and they travel back to Tsageri with the same courier as the Usakhelouri invoice.
Languages in orders from Tsageri
Because of the collectors' market, English and French are the most frequent languages in Tsageri - auctions, sommeliers and the wine press work in these two; German, Dutch and Chinese come up with collectors and investors, Polish and Ukrainian with tourism and restaurants. Papers from Lechkhumi people in Europe arrive in Italian, Greek and Spanish, grandmothers' record books in Russian; Turkish, Arabic and Czech are rare from Tsageri. With Japanese-speaking buyers, who are increasingly common in the Usakhelouri market, we work through the English version.
The process - from bottle passport to family certificate
The file and the buyer's format
The technical sheet, provenance and label in an editable format, by email to info@targmanebi.ge, with a link to the auction house's or buyer's requirements; for a contract - both versions; for a certificate - a photo by WhatsApp.
Auction, customs, bank or authority
Who the document is for decides the style (catalogue or official), the certification and the order of work. Tell us the date the lot is due or the shipment leaves.
The sommelier's language and the lawyer's language
Tasting and provenance notes are translated by a wine specialist, contracts and the environmental report by legal and technical translators; bottle numbers, amounts and cadastral codes are checked with an editor.
File and paper in Tsageri
You receive the file in the same format - ready to send to the auction house. The courier brings the paper original to Tsageri; a producer already going to Kutaisi or Tbilisi can collect it on the way.
Price and deadlines
A client in Tsageri pays no more than one in Tbilisi: the price is by agreement, set after we see the document, and the courier to Lechkhumi is a separate line on the invoice that appears once for several documents. Micro-export papers are short: a bottle passport and an invoice take one to two days, a lot description in catalogue style two to three; a hydropower contract comparison one to two days, an environmental report as long as its page count requires. A Lechkhumi family's certificate with notarization is in your hands on the third day. A producer has a stored glossary and settles once a month, and the yearly update of the label and technical sheet is counted only on the new vintage's fields. Responsibility for the bottle number and the cadastral code lies with one person - the sole trader Mariam Zumadze (ID 30601010853), who owns the bureau and corrects a confirmed error free of charge.

Call: 501 113 200Frequently asked questions - translation in Tsageri
I am sending twenty-four bottles of Usakhelouri to an auction in London. Which documents get translated?
The lot description in the auction house's format, the technical sheet and provenance, the consignment agreement in Georgian for you, the invoice and customs documents for a small shipment, and the shipping terms with temperature control. Send us the link to the auction house's requirements and we will prepare the lot in their catalogue style.
A sommelier wrote the tasting notes in English and I need them in Georgian for the cellar's website. Will you keep the wine language?
Yes - a wine specialist carries the vocabulary of aromas, structure and finish across in the language of a Georgian sommelier, not word for word. In the cellar's terminology base the vineyard and variety names are fixed once and stay the same in every text.
A hydropower company gave me an easement agreement on my vineyard plot in Georgian and English. What do you advise?
Send us both versions before signing: a legal translator sets the English text against the Georgian and tells you for each clause whether they match - especially on the term, amount, area and the obligation to restore the vineyard. You get the result in writing in one to two days; a full translation is rarely needed after that.
The environmental impact report is in English and we want it in Georgian for the village meeting. Who translates it?
A translator with a technical and environmental profile - using hydrological, biological and social terminology, in language the village can understand but that stays precise. Depending on volume, from a few days to two weeks; the summary section can be done separately and faster.
A Chinese collector is asking for a declaration of authenticity for the bottles. What is that document?
A written statement from the producer on the bottle numbers, vintage, provenance and storage conditions, with the laboratory report and the agency certificate attached. We prepare a Chinese version for the collector, notarized where needed; the bottle numbers are checked digit by digit, because they are the basis of authenticity.
Will the courier come to Tsageri or do I have to go to Kutaisi?
The courier comes to Tsageri on an agreed day, or to Kutaisi if you prefer to collect there. An Usakhelouri lot rarely needs paper: both the auction house and the collector are satisfied with the file, and the original travels only for an apostille.
